Elvis Dumervil picks Ravens

It looks like the Ravens have beaten the Broncos again.

A couple of months after beating Denver in the AFC playoffs, they’ve reportedly beaten them out for defensive end Elvis Dumervil’s services. Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that Dumervil has agreed to a contract with the Ravens after taking most of the weekend to settle on which offer he liked best.

Dumervil’s departure from Denver after it appeared he’d be taking a pay cut to stay created a quick response from Baltimore, who will likely plug Dumervil into the role vacated by Paul Kruger as a pass rusher across from Terrell Suggs. It’s a move that could pay off quite well given Dumervil’s ability to get after the quarterback over the course of his career.

The Broncos will have to move on to another option on the edge, with Klis reporting John Abraham as the likeliest target. Dwight Freeney would be next in line as the Broncos try to fill a hole that they never thought they’d have to fill a little more than a week ago.

      UPDATE 4:51 p.m. ET
: The Ravens have confirmed the agreement. He will take a physical Tuesday to make deal official.

Looks like the Ravens used Harrison as leverage to get this deal finalized:

Interesting timing. Former Steeler James Harrison was due in town tonight to visit #Ravens. But that obviously isn't a fit anymore.

Finishing well in the distance in the bidding for Dumervil's services? The Pittsburgh Steelers, who reportedly had upped their ante in recent days, throwing in an offer of a three-months supply of perogis and 10 cases of Iron City beer to go along with a league-minimum salary.

                That would've been a deal-maker for sure!

Sure made it difficult for Dumerville, didn't they?

Wondering where this leaved James, and if he'll take a home town discount deal to return for another year. If they will have him. I'd like to see him back for one more year.

The coaching staff wants him back too, otherwise they never would have tried to restructure. If Abraham and Freeney set a lower market, the perhaps there would still be a way for James to return to Pittsburgh.

I hope you are right philly, but I fear james might just take his ball and go home.

pride only hurts, it never helps.

                          that was for ruthless.

I'm thinking you're probably right. It would be really awkward to be him going back into the locker room after taking short money. I'm also not sure about the message that sends to Jason.

Once again, Ozzie Newsome running rings around Kevin Colbert... They sign Canty, Spears and Dumervil. Who do we sign, retreads - Spaeth, Gay and Ooo-Foo, from the dollar store sale rack. I know people will say "but this is how we do" and that's why the ravens have been kicking our asses the past couple of years. Yeah! I'm panicking! Ozzie has a plan and we don't.
