I think it would shock most if we took Jonathan Hankins NT at 17. But, I think the pick makes sense.

I would be shocked with a TE, 3-4 DE/DT, RB, O-LINE and of course, QB.

I think all other positions are ripe for the picking.

I would be shocked if they drafted Hankins at 1.17 but with Dick Lebeau present during tOSU pro-day it is a huge possibility. I would be disappointed though if Steelers spend 3 1st Rd draft picks on D-line where they have to engage two blockers and not rush the passer.

IMO, D-line is what makes the defense go... Ray Lewis had a couple of down years when Siragusa retired, until the ravens invested in Haloti Ngata... Each d-lineman that's good enough to consume 2, means a LB is totally uncovered. If the team is stuck starting Larry Foote again, I would be OK with a d-lineman in the 1st...

Certainly not said by me. Overall, I think the FO and coaches have done a bang up job picking talent. The Steelers have 6 rings, 2 in the last 7 seasons to prove it.

That's true but this team has not been able to develop talent particularly on the defense recently. CB may be the only exception and that didn't happen until Lake got here.

How do we know? And what is recent? Spence was hurt. Worilds has yet had an opportunity to prove himself as a starter...same for Heyward. Hood might be the only one we know isn't very good.

Or maybe the Steelers front office and those throughout the NFL that hold Lebeau in the highest regard are more knowledgeable than a guy on a message board who has complained about the defensive system throughout a period in which the Steelers went to three SBs, winning two.

I'd be shocked if we picked Eifert but not dismayed, I think he and Heath in Haley scheme could do some serious damage over the course of the next 3-4 years....

Agreed, not only that he could help our offense while Heath is mending. All the talk about drafting defense in round one is questionable, now if someone has a defensive player who can start let me know cause I just see special teams players riding the bench until they can grasp the job in this defense.

Mostly the player, but a bit because of the position. Hankins doesn't seem to have the numbers to match his athleticism, and that worries me a bit. Also, I think that Hampton, despite being a starter, only played about 50% of the defensive snaps. If you are going to invest a first rounder in a NT, I want a really special player, and I'm not sure Hankins is that guy.

Imagine the chaos that would ensue if we select DE Bjoern Werner. Kid was showing in mock drafts as the possible top overall pick a month or so ago, then ran a slow 40 in his undies and didn't jump far or high enough, and now shows up in the bottom 3rd of the draft.

If Star Lotulelei drops, I think we have to consider taking him. He could be our Haloti Ngata... Bulk to hold the nose, athleticism to stay on the field on 3rd down in pass rush situations. Situation is a lot like Jarvis Jones' in that if his health checks out, he may not drop, but if the opportunity to add a player of that caliber came up, I don't think you can pass.
