Report: Steelers interested in Dumervil too

Posted by Josh Alper on March 17, 2013

The Ravens and Steelers won’t be renewing their rivalry on the field for several months, but they may be engaged in conflict over a free agent in the coming days.

Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reported earlier that the Ravens have “serious interest” in adding Elvis Dumervil to their lineup and now adds that a league source has told him that the Steelers are also interested in adding Dumervil to their lineup. Dumervil became a free agent after Friday’s fax follies negated the pay cut it briefly looked like he would be taking to remain with the Broncos.

That the Steelers would be interested in Dumervil is not surprising since they could use some pass rushing help after saying goodbye to James Harrison, but it’s hard to see them paying what it will cost to sign Dumervil given how hard they’ve been working to get their cap in order already this offseason. It wouldn’t be impossible (and the Ravens are hardly brimming with cap space), but they might not have enough ammunition to win a bidding war.

The Titans and Patriots have also been mentioned as possible suitors for Dumervil’s services and the coming week should bring more information about the next stop for the unexpected free agent.

Can't see how they'd fit him under that Cap....

        Re-work Troy's 2012 deal.

Then add an extension to his contract.

        Presto!

They know what he was going to get in Denver. Why show interest if they didn't know that number?

        It's about the guaranteed money.

The ONLY risk in that is banking on Troy's health..

Even if they don't want him, I think it's a great move to show interest in him.

The Ravens are desparate right now...might as well drive up the price of any player they want, whether you intend to sign him or not.

And I think that's a significant risk, at this point. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Elvis as an end in a 4-3 Steeler D...but even if you re-worked and extended Troy to give him what he was going to get from the Donks, it seems to me that would take more $$$ than the Steelers can cough up...there would be little to nothing left for the other signings they need to make.

And that's what I suspect the Steelers are up to. I doubt they are serious about signing Dumervil. They're trying to help jack up his price so the Rats can't have him.

We could sign Dumervil and it wouldn't be that big of a cap hit this year, just like Wallace wasn't that big of a cap hit to the Dolphins. It would come after this year, so it's very possible!

even if we could afford dumervil, which we can't, the steelers are better served in finding out exactly what they have in woirlds.

I'm not real confident, but hopefully he proves me wrong and really blossoms into a great player. This roster could certainly use it.

yea, im sure he wanted to turn down 8-10 million and play for a superbowl contender so hew could sign for a couple million from a team heading towards the bottom of the afc north

woulnd't touch elvis. coming out of college, i had him in every mock i did - as a fan of the CArds, i was well aware of his ridiculous pass-rush ability and thought he'd be a good OLB project. Today, he's too pricey to be a project... he's better with his hand in the dirt as a DE
