This makes no sense to me...

Who do you think developed William Gay? McFadden? Randle El?
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

Uhhhhhhhh if Lewis leaves this doesn't shore up anything. It's like trying to plug a 10 foot hole in a boat with a cork.

Bouchette is clueless. Of course some team is going to offer Lewis a ton of money. I'ts a premium position and Lewis has shown major improvement. 23 passes defensed will get you a ton of money thrown at you.

But I thought you said the Steelers don't lose anyone they want to keep? This moves certainly smacks of them thinking Lewis is gone (And you know they would like to keep him).

Gay is a good slot or nickel CB in our system. He won't be playing on the outside. I could see them offering Allen a contract this off-season.

CB may be a real possibility in RD1.

I can't blame the Steelers for signing Gay, we need some depth back there if we lose Lewis. Gay knows our system and is a step above what we have backing up the starters.
The Steelers would like to sign Lewis and its still a possibility, if he gets an offer that we can't match, its business we can't break the bank for one player no matter how good he is.

I think the move says more about how bad depth is at CB if one of the starting 3 go down. The 4th corner now needs to be starter capable. Gay can do that better then the rest of the special teamers/back ups. Heck you better have a up and coming CB to be the 5th guy or a good cover safety in todays NFL.

              not a bad move.

signing Willie Gay provides us with some depth and added competition in training camp. he already knows the system, actually plays okay in the slot and will help us contribute on special teams...

This move reeks of complacency by the front office imo. Are there no other CBs available besides this guy? If the FO is afraid of losing Lewis there has to be better options. I hope this is a move for the nickel position and not starting corner possibilities. And I would rather have someone else at nickel. I don't believe this move makes the team any better, it is a lateral move.

I think the move says more about curtis browns development than it does about lewis's chance of staying.

the lights better come on for him real quick.

I think Gay is a good slot CB; if AZ was unhappy with him, was he playing the slot or did they put him out wide? Were they juxtaposing his play with Peterson's - who is a freak? As long as this was a move to secure the slot, I am OK with it. At least we know he knows the Steeler/Dicky rocket science/brain surgery scheme. It would take any other player YEARS to figure out.

Exactly. I like the signing. Gay is a solid DB that will provide us some depth in a position whose importance has risen exponentially the last few years. That will give Brown and Van Dyke some more time for the light bulb to come on.
As many on this site think ... The Rooney's suck, Colbert sucks, Tomlin sucks, the coaches suck, and the players suck.

                              Here are the numbers:

                              Gerry Dulac@gerrydulacWilliam Gay's deal: 3 yrs, $4.5million, $500k signing bonus.
Could be better, could be worse.

/\ What I was thinking. Brown didn't do much in the developement department, beside we could still sign Lewis combined with Ike, Cortez,Gay makes it one of the best in the league.
