Willie Colon out for the season again

It doesn't matter if they ONLY save $1 million on the cap. A player who misses most of the games isn't worth it even if they save NOTHING on the cap. The guy can't stay healthy, move on. Other wise, you hope he is gonna be out there just to disrupt the team once again. It makes no sense to keep a player who is always too hurt to play. They keep making this same mistake, see Aaron Smith

If you get rid of Colon, you need to replace him with somebody, and finding a capable replacement will require either a high draft choice or more than $1 million to a veteran. Keeping him for one more year would reduce the dead money cap.

Aaron Smith was a different situation. There are significant financial impediments to cutting Colon.

Colon is going to be a tough decision for the Steelers. Since they restructured him this offseason, cutting him next year will be a hit of over $6 million against the cap, and his cap number is around $7 million for next year, meaning that the Steelers would only save about $1 million by cutting him.

The injuries are a concern, but Colon was a big part of the success of the running game. His pass protection, penalties and conditioning need to improve, but Colon/Pouncey is much better than Pouncey/Legs.

But still a savings. I believe we can still just to designate one cut as a post June 1st cut, thereby spreading the 6 million over two years instead of one. This would save us more against the cap. I think they will ask Willie to take a pay cut or take a hike.
