Did 49'ers sign Bowman to a lesser deal than Timmons received?

Timmons signed a six year deal for 50 million with 10 million dollar signing bonus. Not sure what total guarantees were.

I would take Bowman over Timmons in a hot New York minute. Seems like they got very similar deals.

No way. Maybe I'd take Bowman if the Steelers had Patrick Willis to play next to him. Put Bowman next to Foote and tell me you'd feel the same way...

I'll take Timmons. He is one of the only playmakers we have on the field defensively. We have a lot of really good players, but very limited in splash playmakers. Which is why we produce very few turnovers and negative plays. Bowman is solid but he would not contribute sideline to sideline and in the passing game the same way Timmons does. I wish we had Willis and Timmons, now that would be an amazing situation.

I can understand being unhappy with Timmons in the past, but he has been a bright spot on this team this year. He's playing to the level of his deal this year, IMO.

I'm not unhappy with Timmons. I think he is a good player, but I think we overpaid him.

The 49'ers signed the better player to a very comparable deal. Bowman IS the better player of the two.

I think the Steelers overpaid based on production and that's before you consider we restructured Timmons and converted more of his base salary to a signing bonus last year.

Less than eight million dollars in guaranteed money. before he can’t run anymore.Per a league source, the deal that Bowman accepted includes less than $8 million in fully-guaranteed money, via a $7.5 million signing bonus and the balance of his $540,000 base salary for 2012. But the deal contains millions more in salary guaranteed for injury only, for now.
In 2013, a $4 million option bonus is due to Bowman; it’s fully guaranteed for now. Ditto for Bowman’s $630,000 base salary in 2013. The salary becomes fully guaranteed at the start of the 2013 league year.
In 2014, Bowman has a $4 million base salary, which is guaranted for injury, for now. It becomes fully guaranteed at the start of the 2014 league year. He also can earn per-game active roster bonuses that total, if all earned, $750,000.
In 2015, Bowman’s base salary is $4.7 million. Again, it’s guaranteed for now for injury only. It becomes fully guaranteed at the start of the 2015 league year. Bowman also has the per-game roster bonuses that total $750,000.
In 2016, the base salary is $5.85 million. $4.17 million of it is guaranteed for injury only for now; it becomes fully guaranteed at the start of the 2016 league year. Bowman once again has the per-game roster bonuses that total $750,000.
In 2017, Bowman’s base salary is $6.75 million, non-guaranteed, with the per-game roster bonuses that total $750,000.
In 2018, the salary pushes to $8.7 million, with the per-game roster bonuses that total $750,000.
Given the free-agent market for linebackers (it’s nearly as soft as the veteran running back market) and the ever-present injury risk for a young player making minimum salaries, it makes sense for Bowman to take an offer that, in reality, he couldn’t have refused.

This does nothing to make me want Bowman over Timmons....

Bowman is a beast, but is he beastly because of the guy next to him or is it true talent?..... I gotta believe if Timmons played next to Willis it would really make Timmons shine at what he does best... rush the QB from the inside.

Navorro Bowman was still available when we drafted Jason Worilds in Round 2 and Emmanuel Sanders in Round 3 of the 2010 Draft.

Comparing deals... maybe he likes being a 49er? Maybe they said 'this is what we can offer or look elsewhere'? Maybe Timmons has a better manager?

Maybe the Steelers value Timmons higher than the 49ers value Bowman?

Too many variables. What's the value of a player? Whatever the team he gets paid by is willing to spend on him.

A lot of knowledgeable football guys say he made more plays than Willis last year. I don't think there is as much separation between Bowman and Willis as many think.
