IMO it is just a case of being "young and dumb." Even in the industry I work in kids out of college feel that they are prepared for the professional work force. It takes about 1-2 years for them to figure that they aren't and that they have to go back to school or learn new skills. I think this is Dwyer's case. He made the team out of college doing what he typically did in the off season. He had his second off season and still made the team with the same level of off season prep and natural ability. Now he has figured that the same old thing won't work and to his credit maybe through increased maturity he realizes he has to do more and he is doing it.

How has he been different than Redman when he came in out of shape his first year and begged to get taken out of a pre-season game and now look he is the second coming of Jerome Bettis to many. Redman got it a year earlier than Dwyer but he also had the benefit of supervised workouts after his first season that Dwyer didn't. IMO Dwyer will be very good this year. Time will tell.
    Please.

Redman was an undrafted free agent and Dwyer was originally projected as a top 30 talent that fell to the sixth round...

If that kind of precipitous drop doesn't get through to you, then perhaps something else is wrong...

With luck, you are correct about Dwyer and he is finally coming around...

People like Redman because he gets it done. He earned more opportunities as he developed and got it done in a big way when given the opportunity after Mendenhall was injured...

Dwyer himself was injured last year, so he was not able to take advantage of the opportunity to shine in the spotlight as Redman did...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

In Dwyer's defense, he probably thought (as many did) that his drop on draft day was more due to the style of offense he played on at GT and the fact that the NFL looks at RB's as a commodity unless they are really special. If I recall, he also had some injury concerns as well. Hopefully, he gets what being a pro is all about now. There are few better locker rooms in the NFL right now, so that could help him in ways that wouldn't if had been drafted by the Bears or Buc's or something.

Jonathan Dwyer Says He Isn’t Fat Anymore, Has Lost Weight

        July 2, 2012
        By Josh Dhani, Founder

Jonathan Dwyer has struggled with weight problems since entering the NFL. His stock fell to the sixth round after he came up out of shape in 2010 Scouting Combine. Dwyer then showed up overweight to training camp last year and has failed the Pittsburgh Steelers’ conditioning tests.

The 22-year-old hasn’t seen much playing time due to that reason. Last year, he ran for 123 yards off of 16 carries. However, with Rashard Mendenhall most likely to start the season on the PUP list due to his torn ACL, Dwyer will be seeing a lot more playing time, but he looks to drop the weight.

However, Dwyer claims he has lost 20 pounds this off-season and is in much better shape after pushing up to 240 last season.

“I am just realizing how much it takes to get where you are in this league and how hard you have to work and push yourself,” Dwyer told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “This is my year to prove something to myself, the league, to the organization, that I am worth more than what I was.”

With Mendenhall out, him and Isaac Redman will be sharing carries. As the No. 2 running back on the roster, Dwyer is ready for as many carries as he can get.

“I know if I come in at the weight I am supposed to be, I will be OK,” Dwyer said. “It is not anybody else’s responsibility to come into camp in shape. It is mine.”

Dwyer is in shape, we’ll see how he does.

I think it's funny that you are saying it takes guys 1 - 2 years before they get it. I guess that isn't true for defensive players.

There is a big difference between how Redman showed up for camp and how Dwyer showed up for camp. Dwyer couldn't even complete the beginning running drill. Redman wanted out of a game where he was gashing the defense and his exercised induced asthma kicked in. Not that it's an excuse but Redman even said there is a difference being in shape and being in NFL shape. He learned very quickly. He also has never lacked in effort ... the same cannot be said for Dwyer.

Dwyer hasn't learned very quickly. I'm anxious to see if he has this year. I hope so and I hope he turns out to be a great back. That way we will have 2 great backs with him and Redman and set for many years to come.
As many on this site think ... The Rooney's suck, Colbert sucks, Tomlin sucks, the coaches suck, and the players suck.

          but Go Steelers!!!

..and to prove everyone wrong he came to camp fat... I think it's more than the offense he was in... he obviously has some motivation issues and hopefully he has turned the corner.

Ben dropped to 11 and he still has a chip on his shoulder... Dwyer lasted 6 rounds and went to Golden Coral to celebrate... I guess he ate the chip on his shoulder.

Well it depends on who we are talking about... Dwyer was "drafted" and went to an ACC school so all he has to do is "lose a few pounds in his 3rd year to be awesome.

My money is on the undrafted future UPS driver from Bowie State.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Ben only dropped thanks to the Raiders and Browns. What many people fail to admit, is that most of the top 10 had their QBs already.

You knew Dennis Green was going to pick Fitz because he'd known him for years.

I apologies to the board for using Ben as an example of a guy dropping and using it as motivation. I should have known using HIS name would open the door to the cockpit for another hijacking attempt.

Ask the water bottle in the green room if Ben cared about the other teams who already thought they had their QB's...

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Ben didn't throw the water bottle. The late Terry Hoeppener did.
