    Steelers Resign Essex

A few of the beat writers have reported this, based on reports from Essex on his twitter feed. Essex is a guy who can back up 4 spots on the line and provides solid, affordable depth. Another solid move.

Essex has slimmed down so much I didn't even recognize him when he posted a pic.

My reaction to the Jerricho Cotchery signing:
My reaction to the Leonard Pope signing:
My reaction to the Trai Essex signing:
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

        Not a fan of his.
Even if Bill Belichick was getting an atomic wedgie, his face would look exactly the same.

This is one of those "Meh" signings. Now let's go draft a couple of O-linemen, keep Legursky as the backup swing guard and center, Essex as the tackle and get rid of J Scott.

              More mediocrity on the OL.

Essex is the definition of mediocrity, no question. But there is value to having a mediocre veteran as the 9th/10th offensive lineman on the roster, especially when he can play all the positions on the line.

We need 3rd stringers just as long as he is counting third string money.

Essex is the Swiss Army Knife of Steelers football.

Well, at least- he would be, if they used him in a variety of ways.

So, to ammend...Trai Essex is an untapped fount of potential as a Steeler Swiss Army Knife, capable of playing all the OL positions, TE, FB, RB, WR & QB...with a pinch of K/P if required...

                    Excellent Signing.
The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off, why should I?

I'm fine with this signing as long as he never plays.

They could have signed me cheaper for that postition.

You are right...we should have spent 40 gazillion dollars that we don't have to sign Carl Nicks, Ben Grubbs, Eric Winston, Jared Gaither, and Scott Wells instead.

Ruthless, I didn't say we had a choice but it still doesn't change the fact that we are retaining mediocrity. The reason we can't afford those you mention is that they are actually good offensive linemen. Good offensive linemen get paid a decent price. There is a reason why no one else wanted Esex, Foster and Legursky...they aren't good.

Has anybody even attempted to sign an RFA this year?

The reasons that few RFAs get offers is because the original team has the right to match -- why spend the time doing negotiations for somebody else? Foster and Legursky are not great starting options at G, but a guy like Legursky has value as a gameday reserve at all three interior spots, and Foster is an admittedly mediocre starter who, at the least, provides nice depth on the Oline.
