Extra increase in the salary cap this year

word is that the big hits put on the Skins and Cowboys will be redistributed around the league for the sake of fair competition.

looks like the Steelers will be getting an extra 1.6 million to work with this year. That could be just the ticket to sign Wallace and some other solid FA.

I don't think $1.6M is jack for what Wallace and any other good FA will want.

obviously 1.6 mil by itself isn't much. But it is enough to make a difference of some sort, especially when up against the wall. And with Omar Khan in charge.

1.6 is enough to handle the contracts of guys like Mundy and Legursky I would imagine. From where we came from, we'll take it.

I think you guys are missing D Rock's point. The Steelers by tendering have already allocated 2.7 million for Wallace next year. Add the 1.6 and that gives them 4.3. Plus they were a few million under the cap after all of their tenders.
Steelers 2015 Draft???....Go Freak! As in....

you got it Dub. The only problem is....that idea came before I saw the Colston and Garcon contracts. Either way, there should be room to sign Wallace long term if they really want to.

Look at it this way... 1.6 x 5= 8 million and 1.6 x 6 = 9.6 million so that 1.6 should be enough to give them an extra 8 to 9.6 million in signing bonus over the course of a 5 or 6 year deal.

Yeah, say you give Wallace a Colston-like deal (roughly 5 years, $40 million with a $20 million signing bonus). The bonus is spread out equally over each of the 5 years of the contract ($4 million per year), and you can make the 2012 base salary the minimum for someone in his 4th year ($685,000), which would obviously have to increase in subsequent years.

If he already counts $2.7M after receiving his RFA tender, and we got an extra $1.6M from the stupid Redskins and Cowboys, that's $4.3 million (as Dee Dub noted), which is only $385,000 away from the $4.685M cap hit he'd take up in this theoretical scenario...it's very doable.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Still need about $5 mil to sign draft picks and UDFAs.
