I've also read that the Texans may be interested in Wallace, so that would give us their 26th pick and we could still possibly get Glenn and Hightower filling our two top needs at LG and ILB.

If either scenario happens, I'd like to see us re-sign Cotchery as our No. 2 or 3 receiver and grab a receiver like Rueben Randle (6'3" 208lbs.) in Rd. 2.

I agree with you all that Smith, Farrior, Ward etc. need to be cut or retire. It hurts to say that, but it must happen.

I'd have no issue at all essentially "trading" Wallace for the ability to get both Glenn and Hightower. We become a much stronger team.

      Re: Ben Re-Structures..

With BB's restructure and assuming the cap will be 125 mil...The Steelers are about 1.9 mil over rule 51 but that includes all tenders to Wallace, Johnson, Foster, Legursky, Lewis, Mundy, Kapinos, McClendon, & Redman and all the future contracts they signed that will come into play. The better news is assuming the cap is 125 mil, the Steelers are just 8.7 mil away from being able to apply the franschise tag to Wallace to ensure nobody gets a shot at him. So Colbert's words have truth to them.

8.7 could be obtained by restructures of Harrison, Polamalu, Miller, and possibly a pay cut for Hampton & Ward if they really think they can play and are willing to do so. This is what I have been saying all along was the plan. If they could do all this and hold off on cuts until June 1st...It will benefit them for spreading out the cap hits on the bonus. You still might see a Smith, Scott, or Allen cut in crunch time because they appear to be the ones who will create the least dead money for this year. Just like Ruth said, there still will be another round of cuts coming June 1st for the players who won't restructure or who they will be moving on without. I expect Wallace to be locked in long term by then and his cap number will be down from the franchise tag so things are starting to take focus.
