Steelers chairman Dan Rooney and his son, Steelers president Art Rooney II, said in a statement today that they will continue to work toward a solution to keep ownership of the team in the Rooney family.

Their statment comes a day after Dan Rooney's four brothers -- Tim, Patrick, John and Art Jr. -- rejected a bid from New York billionaire Stanley Druckenmiller to buy their shares in the Steelers. The four brothers also have an offer from Dan Rooney and Art II to buy their shares, but they have not accepted that offer either.

"While we would have preferred our bid to have been accepted, we will continue our efforts to maintain the ownership of the Steelers in our family," said the statement from Dan Rooney and Art Rooney II. "We have been told on many occasions the other family members prefer to keep the franchise in the family. We look forward to ongoing dialogue within the family toward that goal.

"We are grateful for the support we have received from many family members as well as those who have offered to become our partners. We hope that further discussions can remain cordial and private, and not become a distraction during the football season," the statement said.
