The Steelers terminated the contracts of veteran cornerback Bryant McFadden and wide receiver Arnaz Battle, a special-teams captain the past two seasons, today in a series of roster moves.

Both had one year left on their respective contracts.

McFadden started on the last two Steelers' teams to play in the Super Bowl. The seventh-year veteran opened last season as a starter opposite Ike Taylor, but, hampered by a nagging hamstring injury, McFadden lost his job to William Gay.

McFadden played sparingly on defense much of the season, giving way to rookie cornerbacks Cortez Allen and Curtis Brown.

Battle became a special-team stalwart after signing with the Steelers as an unrestricted free agent in 2010, but he did not catch a pass in either of his two seasons in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers signed a trio of players to offseason contracts, including cornerback Myron Rolle, wide receiver Juamorris Stewart and linebacker Brandon Hicks. They also released tight end Miguel Chavis and linebacker Erik Clanton. Each had signed with a the Steelers as an undrafted free agent last July, but both got hurt during the preseason

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Seems to be a lot of young players being added to future contracts- more than normal anyway. Quite possibly a sign that the team expects a few opportunities to become available.

Woodley has restructured, Timmons likely to. That'll free up a good chunk of salary cap space- then we'll see how deep the cuts might go.
The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off, why should I?

              Light up the darkness.

                I bet NE signs McFadden.

As bad as he was at times at CB, he showed a lot of professionalism the way he played on ST for us last year. I give the guy a lot of credit for the effort once he got demoted.

I still think he could make a decent FS.

Agree Flippy, McFadden took his demotion like a pro and played well on special teams for us, he may well make a food free safety for someone still.

I would think a food free safety wouldn't be particularly effective on the football field...

No offense meant...I realize that the "f" and "g" keys are right next to each other...

But the thought of a food free safety is pretty funny...

                              VERY NICE.

That was different that I was pronouncing it in my head.
