Tomlin says Ben has a “shot” at playing Sunday

Posted by Mike Florio on December 27, 2011, 2:23 PM EST

    Reuters
With the Steelers currently the No. 5 seed in the AFC playoff field and in position to climb all the way to No. 1, they’d benefit from the presence of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on Sunday at Cleveland.

    And they may have it.

Coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that Roethsliberger, who suffered a sprained ankle 19 days ago against the Browns, has a “shot” to play.

Charlie Batch led the Steelers to a 27-0 win over the Browns. He had a 3-1 record in 2010 during Roethlisberger’s suspension.

The Steelers can capture the No. 2 seed in the AFC with a win and a Ravens loss to the Bengals. The road to Indy will wind through Pittsburgh if the Steelers win and the Ravens and Patriots lose.

There’s also an added benefit, if Ben plays. That tent he wore during Saturday’s game would be available to provide shelter for up to 50 tailgating fans who make the drive to Cleveland.

Always good to keep an opponent guessing, regardless. Says here he ought to start out on the bench - Ben at 100% in the playoffs is way more important than any seeding in terms of this team's ultimate results.

          Florio is such a douche......

The quotations around the word "shot" insinuating that he will take a needle to play even though the team said that he did not prior to the SF game.

What is with the tent comment? Can't think of a legitimate thing to whine about (which doesn't usually stop him) so he whines about what Ben wore on the sidelines?

Still waiting for Florio's grand article displaying outrage at the fact that the Browns let McCoy back on the field with a concussion. After all, he did show outrage about the term "concussion like symptoms" being used by the Steelers, but has no opinion on concussion suffering players on the field.

              DECEMBER 28, 2011

              Wednesday news and notes

Ben Roethlisberger went through a full practice on Wednesday and appears to be on course to start for the Steelers Sunday at Cleveland.

It's the first time Roethlisberger has practiced since suffering a sprained ankle Dec. 8 against the Browns.

It's also a needed step for Roethlisberger. He needs to be on the field to be ready for the playoffs.

© Things don't look quite so good for LaMarr Woodley. I spoke to Woodley at length today and he sounded like a player who was resigned to sitting out again this week to get another week's rest for his injured hamstring.

© Maurkice Pouncey was also back on the field today and says he's pain free.

© Missing from practice most notably was safety Troy Polamalu, who is said to be suffering from a knee injury.

That's a new one. Polamalu had been playing through a hamstring problem, but he was very active last Sunday against the Rams.

© Interesting to note that the Steelers finished their home schedule with 28 sacks at Heinz Field, but have just five in seven road games this season.

Crowd noise at Heinz helps when the opposing OL can't hear the QB's signals.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.
