Browns' Phil Taylor fined $15,000 for hit on Ben

Phil Taylor fined $15,000 for hit on Roethlisberger

Posted by Josh Alper on December 14, 2011

With all the attention focused on James Harrison’s hit on Browns quarterback Colt McCoy and the Browns’ handling of McCoy after the hit, it is easy to forget that plenty of other things happened in last Thursday night’s game between the teams.

One of those things was a roughing the passer penalty on Browns defensive tackle Phil Taylor and the league passed down some punishment for the hit. Taylor said Wednesday that he’s been fined $15,000 for the hit to the head of Ben Roethlisberger and told Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer that he plans to appeal. According to Cabot, Taylor said that he only put his hand up and doesn’t deserve to be fined for that.

Taylor, who was fined $7,500 earlier this year for a hit on Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne, took to his own Twitter account as well to complain about the fine on Wednesday.

“Man!! All these fines is crazy! After while the NFL will be 2 hand touch.”

And even under those rules, hits to the heads of quarterbacks will be fined by the league office.

Second illegal hit on a QB this year...

    Why no suspension?

Meanwhile, Harrison had no other illegal hits on QB's or any other players this year. The McCoy incident was the first time he was discliplined for anything whatsoever in the 2011 season.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

In Goodell's NFL, punishment is given out in direct proportion to the amount of bad press generated...rules and consistency mean nothing...

It happened with never-arrested, never-charged Ben Roethlisberger...

It is happening right now with favorite-Goodell-scapegoat and favorite-Goodell-whipping-boy James Harrison...

        Goodell is a vindictive POS...

Ryan Clark is fined $40,000 for a repeat offense this season while Phil Taylor is fined less than half that amount for a repeat offense?

And those of you who think Goodell has nothing to do with those fines?

        BS

You are 100% correct. The media machine hates the Steelers, bottom line, and anything negative they can jump on the Steelers about, they jump hard.

What about the player that hit Ben low?

I wonder what would have happened to McCoy had Harrison targeted his legs with that hit? He was outside the pocket and running. Do you think McCoy would be ambulatory on his own or would he be using crutches this morning?

Re: Browns' Phil Taylor fined $15,000 for hit on Ben

Perhaps the reason that McCoy had such a severe concussion is that Browns were stupid and put him back in the game two plays later...

Florio can rail about "concussion-like symptoms" with the Steelers, but they've never put a player back in the game immediately following a hit like that...
