    Given the investment...

    Arians definitely needs to go after this season, but IMO so does LeBeau.

    Look at the facts. Given the huge investment financially this team has made on the defensive side of the ball compared to the offensive side we should be seeing so much more. We have handed out huge contracts to defensive players. Who on the offensive side of the ball other than Ben is getting paid like that?

    LeBeau has gotten the resources but IMO comparitively he and his unit is underperforming. Let the hate and the knee jerk defense of the "legend" begin in 3..2..1..

    If you want to talk about the investment in the defense, Troy and Woodley were both out. Timmons has underperformed this year. A defense without 2 of its best players, coming off a bye with rust to be expected, held a team to 9 points on the road on Sunday night.

    Seriously, what are your expectations? Did you want a shutout?

      Couldn't agree more...Not to mention that DL is probably not solely responsible for who stays and who goes and how much they will make....He coaches with what he has been given...

      While I would agree that the defense can do better particularly in the 4th quarter, they have kept this team in the playoff race. The offense may have one a game here or there this season but without the defense we would be a .500 team.

      The offense has great potential but they are way too inconsistent...The offense is the weak link on this team right now.

        Is it the defense's fault that the Steelers won by only 4 points?

            Using COMPARATIVE numbers, Lebeau's defense is ranked 2nd in the NFL (3rd in passing and 6th in rushing). Does the D have to rank 1st every year for you to be happy with him?!? Everybody likes to blame the D for allowing late game scoring, but if the offense would actually score a few points in the 2nd half on a consistant basis, the D would not have to bail the O out every game.

            Face it, the O scores most of its points early based on BA's scripted plays. Once BA has to adjust (gawd forbid), the only way the Steelers score is when Ben goes no huddle because of BA ineptitude. If the team had a decent offensive coordinator, complaints about the D wouldn't even be a point of discussion.

            And the definition of decent refers to SCORING POINTS, not amassing lots of passing and rushing yards per game.

              Unless this team has a monumental collapse or gets owned in the first round of the playoffs, Arians and LeBeau will be welcomed back if they want to return. There is no use fretting about it. I do think LeBeau may retire, but most likely it will be in a another year or two. It sounds as though Arians is planning on returning.
              Even if Bill Belichick was getting an atomic wedgie, his face would look exactly the same.

                Not a single team in the league this season has shown defensive dominance. I think the league has been successful in its goal of emaciating defenses and lighting up the scoreboard. There could be other factors, such as more teams switching to a 3-4 scheme so that offenses are now better prepared against them (it was a big advantage for the Steelers and a couple other teams when they were the only ones). It seems the talent is now being spread to a lot more teams trying to run the same schemes.

                      D1ck Lebeau doesn't need to be defended his record and character as a human being do all the talking that needs to be done. You sound bitter and a bit asinine with the continual DL needs to go mantra. He's regarded as one of the best defensive minds in the game, not by arm hair Defensive Coordinators like me, you and everyone else on this board, but by his peers and, yet, we hear the same tripe week after week, even after the defense gives 9 points and bails out an offense that was offensive.

                        If it's an arm hair defensive coordinator that we want, might I suggest Robin Williams?

                        Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

                        Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

                        We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

                        We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

                              While the defense has rankings that seem respectable, it clearly isn't as dominant as in years past...but it could be argued that has as much to do with injury as rules changes that clearly favor the offense. That said, I see nothing that is so egregious or desperate on defense that a change of philosophy or leadership is necessary...only a change in some personnel & various packages, which already seems to be happening to some degree.

                              LeBeau will eventually have to be replaced, but it will be on his terms as I don't see a collapse happening any time soon. BTW...when it does happen, I'd prefer it to be with someone outside the organization.
