Steelers promote Mortty Ivy, cut Corbin Bryant

The Pittsburgh Steelers have promoted linebacker Mortty Ivy to the active roster from the practice squad.

And they cut defensive lineman Corbin Bryant.

Ivy spent seven of the first eight weeks of the season on the practice squad.

Ivy signed with the Steelers during the offseason after spending time on the practice squads of the St. Louis Rams and Miami Dolphins last year.

Originally Ivy entered the league as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2009 and spent 15 weeks on the Carolina Panthers' practice squad. He was elevated to the Panthers' roster for the final week of the season but was inactive for the game.

OK, so what does that mean? He'll spell Foote/Farrior when they get tired?

Does this mean we're thinking of putting essentially a rookie, even worse because he's never seen the field during a game, in against Brady*?

Someone please talk me down off the ledge!

It must mean the Steelers are worried about Farrior's availability tomorrow. We could possibly see Sylvester in there at ILB tomorrow in the base set. Honestly, I thought Ivy should have probably made the roster out of camp!

Maybe they think Ivy will be valuable on ST's, too?

I really liked what I saw of him in the preseason. Hope he can become another longshot success story, ala James Harrison.

I think it means Farrior isnt going to play and Sly will start. Many get their wish.

          Ward won't be playing either.

            Quick hit

The Steelers re-signed rookie defensive end Corbin Bryant to their practice squad. They released him Saturday after one game on their 53-man roster to make room to sign linebacker Mortty Ivy.

Bryant had been on their practice squad previous to joining the 53-man roster for their game against Arizona when three defensive linemen were out with injuries.

great. with the roster turnover we will likely have next season, bryant and ivy will likely make the team.
Even if Bill Belichick was getting an atomic wedgie, his face would look exactly the same.
