Re: Bill Cowher & Chucky Gruden linked to Dolphins' HC job

Sanchez was over hyped and he's showing himself to be a touch above mediocre. Not all that tough to be better.

But I'll defer to you on how he plays as I know you are in Southern CA and watch a ton more of him playing than I get a chance to do. He stats are good but he lost to Standford the last 2 years (and I'd expect another loss this week). USC has lost 4 the last few years and not been on the national scene as much so maybe that's where I am unfairly making my judgement. He doens't strike me as a guy who puts the entire team on his shoulders and wills them to win. Maybe he is that player.

Report: Stephen Ross has reached out to Bill Cowher’s agent

Posted by Josh Alper on October 28, 2011, 6:18 PM EDT

Tony Sparano is still the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

That didn’t stop owner Stephen Ross from meeting with Jim Harbaugh about the job before Harbaugh signed on with the 49ers and it isn’t stopping him from trying to talk to another possible replacement. Albert Breer of the NFL Network is reporting that Ross has reached out to Bill Cowher’s agent about Cowher’s interest in taking over the reins of the team. Earlier this week, Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com reported that Ross had spoken with intermediaries about Cowher and Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reported that Cowher has “planted seeds” that he’d be interested in the Miami job.

Breer’s report comes with a caveat. Cowher has reportedly told his agent and others that he will not speak to a team without a head coaching vacancy. That can be remedied fairly quickly, of course, and this week’s news that Sparano’s house in Miami is up for sale is a sign that he could be an empty nester in more ways than one.

While Cowher wouldn’t take over the Dolphins job in the middle of the season, firing Sparano would give the team to get a head start of discussions with Cowher about their job. That would give them a jump on other teams that might be making coaching changes in the offseason with an eye toward bringing Cowher into their organization. With Cowher believed to be interested in a situation that offers him a chance to win immediately, the Dolphins might not benefit from being first in the hunt but it probably wouldn’t hurt their chances all that much.

Expect to hear much more about Cowher to the Dolphins in the weeks to come, even if Brandon Marshall’s guarantee comes to fruition in the Meadowlands.

If hired, they are officially changing their name to the Dolpchins

Stephen Ross: I have not reached out to Cowher

There have been multiple reports of undercover and backroom wheeling and dealing by owner Stephen Ross as he tries to land a new coach for the Miami Dolphins.

The latest is an NFL.com report citing an unnamed league source that states Ross has been in contact with Bill Cowher's agent about making the former Pittsburgh Steelers coach the next Dolphins coach.

The report is not true, Ross is telling The Miami Herald.

"I have not reached out to him in any way and will not so long as Tony [Sparano] is the coach," Ross said in a statement tonight.

"And," the short statement concludes, "I hope Tony wins and stays the coach.

The speculation has been so rampant and utterly false over the years its hard to take anything like this seriously anymore...
Some people subscribe to a permanent stasis of wishful thinking. They like to believe the world is made of marshmallows and filled with butterflies. I don't.

Yea, I was just about to believe it and Ross put an end to that...I guess part of me wants to see the spit fly one more time even though it has to be with another team.

Yesterday on 93.7, the Fan, Cowher said he will "make a statement" about Miami head coach speculation on the CBS pre-game show today (Sunday). Told everyone to listen. He also said he was happy where he was at this time.

Cowher: 'I do not plan on coaching next year'

Former Pittsburgh Steelers coach and current CBS Sports analyst Bill Cowher said Sunday he has no plans to return to coaching next year.

Reports earlier in the week linked Cowher to the Miami Dolphins, whose relationship with current coach Tony Sparano continues to unravel, but Cowher refuted the claim that he had been contacted by the Dolphins.

"I do not plan on coaching next year. I love where I work and I enjoy the people I'm working with," Bill Cowher said on CBS' "The NFL Today", via the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "I like what I'm doing here and I plan to be back in the same seat."

Cowher also said that he has "not been contacted directly, or indirectly by anyone from the Miami Dolphins."

A league source told NFL Network's Albert Breer on Friday that associates of Dolphins owner Stephen Ross had been in contact with Cowher's agent.

Cowher left coaching after winning the Super Bowl in 2006 with the Steelers.
