Whenever anyone suggests a PSU LB when talking about the draft, those opinions are typically dispelled as blind homerism from Nittany Lion fans who don't know real football like they play in the SEC (for instance). However, look at some of the recent LB draftees from Happy Valley, and how they are doing this year.
Paul Posluszny: At the game yesterday, his name was mentioned over the Heinz Field P.A. an absurd number of times. I think I heard that "Smith" was in on one tackle, and that "Alualu" was in on another tackle, but that's about it...seems like every other tackle was made by Posluszny. I was surprised that the official scorekeepers "only" credited him with 16 tackles in that game (9 solo), because it felt like at least 2 dozen or more.
Sean Lee: Another interception yesterday against Brady. That's 3 picks in 5 games this season (plus another 5 passes defensed). You'd think with those numbers, that would mean that he's playing a ton in coverage and therefore would not have high tackle numbers, but he's averaging just shy of double digit tackles per game (47 tackles in 5 games).
NaVorro Bowman: Patrick Willis is widely acknowledged as the best ILB in football right now. Willis lost his veteran running mate Takeo Spikes in the offseason, and that spot was taken by the young Bowman. What has NaVorro done with this opportunity? He actually has 9 more tackles than the All Pro human tackling machine Willis so far this season (56 vs. 47).
What did we learn here? PSU LB's can play in the NFL. PSU RB's on the other hand? Well...
