    Costly hit for Polamalu?

    Costly hit for Polamalu?

    September 14th, 2011
    – Scott Brown

I’m hearing Troy Polamalu has been fined, but not for taking what appeared to be a swing at Ravens running back Ray Rice during a scuffle between the AFC North rivals.

The NFL has instead docked Polamalu an undisclosed amount -– I’m working to try to get the exact figure though I think it’s $5,000 or $10,000 –- for a horse-collar tackle late in the third quarter of the Steelers’ 35-7 loss.

It came at the end of a 26-yard run by Ravens running back Ricky Williams.

Polamalu had yet to hear about the fine before the end of the open locker room session Wednesday afternoon.

It will be interesting to hear if he has any comment on it Thursday.

He offered this gem when asked what set him off before getting into it with Rice: “I think they were talking bad about our reporters.”

I know many want to blame Goodell for this mess, but let's be honest. It's the litigious nation we live in. Lawyers are chompiing at the bit to file class actions on behalf of former players for past injuries. The day of reckoning will come, and it will be costly to the game.

This is the reason the Steelers voted against the new CBA. Goodell has all the power and is judge and jury on fines/suspensions.

            You are absolutely correct Hawaiian.

10,000 for deliberately punching a player is out of whack with 15,000 for a horse collar that happened while trying to tackle a player. Even if they deem that particular horse-collar to be flagrant and extreme, what exactly would they have Troy do? Let him go and allow him to score? It is so arbitrary.
Even if Bill Belichick was getting an atomic wedgie, his face would look exactly the same.

To be honest I'm surprised we haven't heard that Troy, Hines and Ike have been suspended. Troy and Hines both took a swing and Ike did the headbutt. With Goodell's hard on for the Steeler players I'm shocked that this hasn't already been announced.

I'm pretty sure all of those incidents were retaliation but our guys have got to learn to keep their cool. We know from last year that our players are under a microscope from the league and wouldn't hesitate to fine and suspend them for every little thing.
As many on this site think ... The Rooney's suck, Colbert sucks, Tomlin sucks, the coaches suck, and the players suck.

              but Go Steelers!!!

Now, I see that Troy was the only person in week 1 that was fined for a horse collar tackle when there were several players that committed them in the first week. Mein Fuhrer is in mid-season form already.

Didn't one of the Ravens horsecollar one of the Steelers in that game .... Mendy or Brown ??????

If so, where's the fine ?

BTW, Troys fine and $15K, and a punch after the whistle worth $10K ? Apparently a Steeler surcharge of $10K per fine.

What was the fine for the raven who horse-collared Brown, late and out of bounds, on a kickoff return?

i wasnt even aware that a horse collar tackle was a fineable action. Its nothing more than a illegal tackle...
they may as well fine players for holding.

Ya wanna know the lamest thing about this? If Troy were to pick off a pass and run down the sideline towards a touchdown he could legally be pulled down from behind by his hair. And yet that isnt seen by the league in the same light as a horse caller.

                          Unbelievable!!

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Is there a horse collar tracker? Does Troy have a few horse collars on his resume?
