Steelers sign former PSU TE John Gilmore also LS Greg Warren

    Steelers sign backup tight end
    Tuesday, August 02, 2011
    By Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
The Steelers have signed former Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end John Gilmore with the hope he can be the top backup to Heath Miller.

Gilmore, 31, who played at Penn State, caught 32 passes for 330 yards and two touchdowns in three seasons with the Buccaneers. He previously played six seasons with the Chicago Bears, where he had 21 catches for 194 yards and three touchdowns.

After free agent Matt Spaeth signed with the Bears, the Steelers have been looking for a No. 2 tight end. David Johnson is their other tight end, but he plays the role of H-back/fullback in the offense.

Gilmore (6-5, 257) played at Wilson High School in West Lawn, Pa.

Also, the Steelers re-signed long-snapper Greg Warren to a two-year contract.

More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

That's 7 TE's in camp now - 2 from last year, 2 rookies (kid from SC is huge), 1 on the PUP list, McCoy (says 1 year of experience from A&M??) and now the veteran from TB.

Any chance to keep more than 3? Anyone unseed Johnson and send him packing?
