5th Round Pick is OLB Chris Carter Fresno State

Not bad. This is great value. He is one tremendous athlete. Great speed.

11 sacks and 16.5 tackles for loss in 2010. This however was a 4-3 DE. He'll need to make the change but his athletism should allow for that to be a not too difficult transition.

I also interviewed him at the East-West game. Here is the transcript. Very confident borderline cocky kid. Knew all his stats.

Damn this kid sounds good. Kiper's draft guide raves about him, and Nawrocki also like him. They say he gave Gabe Carimi fits (same guy who handled Cam Heyward). Throwing out the comparisons... we said Cortez Allen was Ike Taylor-like. This guy seems, dare I say... Peezy-like. Or at least Haggans-like (which is a compliment).
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

Good value where we got him. NFLDraftScout has him ranked as a 3rd round prospect, and WalterFootball listed him a 2-3. We drafted Thad Gibson to be our #4 OLB last year behind Harrison, Woodley, and Worilds. San Fran picked him up when we needed to make a move mid-season to add a d-lineman (Steve McLendon) to our active roster from the practice squad due to injuries there, so now Carter replaces him in that spot going forward.

04/04/11 - Top linebacker prospects: 8. Chris Carter, Fresno State, 6-1, 248, 3 While scouts are debating where a few pass-rushing prospects will fit best in the NFL, Carter simply lacks the size to remain at defensive end. The 2010 WAC defensive player of the year finished his career with 19.5 sacks, including 11 last season to go along with 16.5 tackles for loss. Carter has long arms, a muscular frame and a good burst off the snap. He's also a heady player who studied philosophy and pre-law and should be able to handle the mental aspects of a move to outside linebacker. That won't help him in physical mismatches in defending the run and is another prospect who must prove he can handle coverage responsibilities. - Jeff Reynolds, The Sports Xchange

03/15/11 - Could be outside looking in (2nd round): OLB Chris Carter (Fresno State)...His exceptional Combine (4.58 40, 27 reps, 6.88 3-cone) and production for the Bulldogs could make him a late second-round pick. Carter's tape does not portend great consistency, however, so a top 64 slot is no sure thing. - Chad Reuter, NFLDraftScout.com

12/18/10 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: DE Chris Carter was named the Bulldogs' MVP in a vote of his teammates. Carter, a senior, had a team-high 11 sacks and 16.5 tackles for loss this season. He also had four forced fumbles. Carter, a converted linebacker, has 19.5 career sacks. - The Sports Xchange

12/07/10 - 2010 ALL-WAC FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM: DL-Chris Carter, Fresno State, 6-2, 230, Sr., has been selected All-WAC First Team for the 2010 college football season as selected by the WAC’s nine head coaches. Carter leads the WAC and is seventh in the nation in sacks with 11.0 for a loss of 63 yards on the season. He is tied for second in the WAC in tackles for loss with 16.5. He has a total of 55 tackles (32 solo). He has also forced four fumbles on the year. Carter has helped lead Fresno State to third in the WAC in total defense. - Fresno State football

12/06/10 - 2010 WAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Chris Carter, a senior defensive lineman from Fontana, Calif. (Kaiser Fontana), leads the WAC and is seventh in the nation in sacks with 11.0 for a loss of 63 yards on the season. He is tied for second in the WAC in tackles for loss with 16.5. He has a total of 55 tackles (32 solo). He has also forced four fumbles on the year. Carter has helped lead Fresno State to third in the WAC in total defense. This is Fresno State’s fourth WAC Defensive Player of the Year award as defensive tackle Alan Harper won it in 2001, defensive lineman Garrett McIntyre won it in 2005 and linebacker Marcus Riley won it in 2007. - WAC football

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

This kid will eventually be the replacement to James Harrison (2 to 3 years). He has all that you want in a 3-4 OLB. Speed (4.5, strength (27 reps), pass rushing moves, and a hi-octane motor. And he is mean too.

This kid will eventually be the replacement to James Harrison (2 to 3 years). He has all that you want in a 3-4 OLB. Speed (4.5, strength (27 reps), pass rushing moves, and a hi-octane motor. And he is mean too.[/quote:1w1eucuh]

The replacement to Woodley. That's waht the Steelers have always done. Have an influx of talent in the wings at OLB to repalce those that have contracted themselves out or have started to decline. Now I know Woodley is young but at some point at his rate he is going to cost small fortune. He has improved every year and that is a recipe for Fort Knox.

I think you could see Harrison move inside in a year or two.

We are in the 6th round already, so my brain is obviously mush by now (it was oatmeal in round 5, and will likely be tapioca pudding by round 7). Apparently, I still think it is 2008 and Rex is still in Baltimore and Joe Flacco is their rookie QB. Ugh...
