I will do I write up of Gilbert based off my notes. I know it won't be a great one though. He is a a RTO or a RG. Really struggles with speed and is sloppy and lazy with technique. Very inconsistent. Catch blocker and doesn't take the action to the defender.

Re: Marcus Gilbert UGH
Marcus Gilbert and Maurkice Pouncey are close friends, that alone will keep Gilbert motivated.
Gilbert may be a RT only, but that's what we need with Flo playing probably one more season and Colon's status uncertain.Comment

Re: Marcus Gilbert UGH
I don't mind that we took him, I just don't like where we took him. To me, he is a 4th round tackle. But, I hope that he is better than I have observed.Even if Bill Belichick was getting an atomic wedgie, his face would look exactly the same.Comment

Mike Mayock is on record as saying Marcus Gilbert is a second rounder...Comment

Re: Marcus Gilbert UGH
I find it impossible to believe that the Steelers scouting department and coaching staff graded this guy incorrectly by a minimum of 34 spots (2.63 to 4.97). I have to believe Gilbert is closer to a 2nd round pick than a 4th round pick.

Re: Marcus Gilbert UGH
Wexell on Gilbert....I agree
9:40 p.m.: I wish I didn't have to be so negative, and there's always the very, very, most excellent chance that I'm wrong, but I don't like the Steelers' second-round pick Marcus Gilbert.
I watched Florida closely the last two years because of the Pouncey twins, and this past season it was a struggle to watch because of the rest of the Florida line. Gilbert was one of the reasons, as he was beaten too often for my taste at LT. He was moved to RT by the end of the season, but by then I had stopped watching. Perhaps he was better on the right side. Hopefully he was.
OL Coach Sean Kugler isn't sure where the 6-6.1, 330-pounder will play. He mentioned that he likes the way Gilbert pulls, and that he could end up at guard, but that "his position will come out."
Gilbert is the son of a Secret Service agent who guarded the last three presidents. The hope here is that Marcus develops better and more quickly than Tony Hills has, but count me among those on the negative side right now

Gilbert's best position will either be at RT or at RG, both positions of need for the Steelers.Comment

Re: Marcus Gilbert UGH
There are questions, but a lot to like too. This kid is big and strong and looks fairly nimble for his size from what little I've seen of him. But the thing I suspect that may play most in his favor is his ability to play so many positions. It's gotta mean the kid is smart and a hard worker and I bet that's why Tomlin wanted him.
Everything points to him being a high character kid and a leader.
It'll be interesting to see what Koogs can do with him.sigpicComment

Re: Marcus Gilbert UGH
Can't say this pick thrilled me but in Colbert and Tomlin I'll trust. Heck our "horrible" OL has played in three Super Bowls in the past six years and all I hear is how bad they are.
I do think we have much greater concerns in our secondary than on our OL. IMO our OL is on a slow, albeit very slow, rise. Our secondary is on the decline and we may still lose our best CB in free agency."My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment

Re: Marcus Gilbert UGH
Chadman has finally worked it out- Steelers fans love having something to be negative about...
SKL has obviously put some time & effort into his analysis of the rookies this year, so must respect his opinions/fears for Gilbert.
That said, Chadman has liked nearly everything he's read about Gilbert, knows that he was part of an OL that made Tim Tebow a 1st round pick, and thinks that Kugs looked a wee bit happy with him. Steelers attended Florida's pro day, so they obviously got to see something they liked- and Chadman finds it hard to believe that the Steelers would draft a player based on a pro day workout & Maurkice's recommendation. Chadman thinks that maybe they saw something on film they liked/looked for.
As for Bradshaw's Hairdresser- if Gilbert ends up anything like that horrible LaMarr Woodley guy, Chadman will accept that as a pass. The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off, why should I?
Light up the darkness.Comment

Did anyone else read Wexell's mock draft on Thursday? The one where he trades half the draft for Pouncey? Sorry but I'll trust Mayock and the Steelers FO here over some small time journalist.Comment
