USC's Tyron Smith pulls out of Combine

INDIANAPOLIS — And then there were 328.

The list of prospects at the NFL Scouting Combine was reduced by one Saturday morning when USC offensive tackle Tyron Smith pulled out of the workouts. Smith, who participated only in the bench press (29 reps) before leaving the Combine, told the NFL Network he is recovering from a knee injury and was advised by trainers to wait until his March 30 pro day to work out fully.

Smith, who was measured at 6-5, 307 pounds on Thursday, started 12 games for the Trojans in both the '09 and '10 seasons. His recorded weight for the Combine was viewed as a significant positive because he has had trouble keeping weight on. He reportedly played at about 280 last season. Although Smith played right tackle at USC, NFL scouts believe he has the athletic ability and feet to make the switch to left tackle.

Sporting News draft expert Russ Lande has Smith ranked No. 14 on his Super 99 list and as the No. 2 offensive tackle behind Boston College's Anthony Castonzo.
