I did not see the entire game except couple of series and Marvin Austin and Brandon BAir looked good...

When Bair answered this question, did he say it somewhat in jest? (It's hard if certain responses are sincere, joking, sarcastic, etc. when they are in print and you can't hear his tone of voice or facial expression).

The reason that I ask is that everything I've read about Bair is that he is a humble, intelligent, driven husband and father (who is several years older than most guys entering the draft because of his 2 year Mormon mission). It seemed somewhat out of character for him to answer a question like that, unless he got comfortable talking with you and playing around a bit.

It would be interesting to see if we would take a shot at an overaged prospect like Bair in the late rounds, when we seemed to have focused on taking underaged prospects in early rounds lately. If we did, though, he would be tutored by a couple of other Mormons on the DL, one who went on a mission in college (Chris Hoke) and one who did not (Brett Keisel).

He was very serious I assure you. I would be hard pressed to say he would be drafted prior to round 5 though. You have to keep in mind the average draft pick lasts 2 years in the league. So if Bair made it through 2 4 year contacts that woulndn't be a stretch for a 26 year old.

SKL--thanks for all the good info you provide. I only caught the first half.

I was very impressed with Jah Reid. Your thoughts????

Also, any CBs or Safeties that really jumped out at you?

I too like Reid and would love to get him in the 4th round (might be tough). I thought the Buffalo corner Josh Thomas had a really good week. Cortez Allen a CB from Citadel also has a nice size-speed combo. For Safeties I really like Jon Nelson from OU. He runs well (former corner) and tackles extremely well. My only concern is he is a little small. For the record the Van Dyke kid from Miami and Mario Butler from Ga. Tech are horse@#it corners and I wouldn't touch either one.

If Reid shows well at the combine I'd also be surprised if he lasted until late 4th Round but given our need for an OT with upside if he continues to show well I'd be OK overdrafting him at the end of Round 3.

It will really be intereting with the assessments of our OL needs with Staks and potentially Colon coming back. Fans see the situation as dire but if those two come back healthy the OL could be pretty solid next year. Colon's injury may actually play to the Steelers advantage in terms of signability and willingness to try a shift inside to OG.

Still need some young talent on the OL though but DL could be the bigger priority in the eyes of the front office. Cornerback still has to be the biggest area of need and Safety not far behind.

Re: SKL @ East/West Shrine Game

I talked with Dan Rooney quite a bit this week (I think he is Arts Kid, not sure) who is the Steelers southeast regional scout (the guy who found Willie Parker). He said Willie Colon was coming along nicely and should be healthy by summer camps, but that is a tough injury for an OL.

Chad Reuter wasn't nearly as impressed with Jah Reid:

"Right tackle Jah Reid from nearby UCF got by with his size and length on the practice field in most spots but looked very stiff in the process. Without upper- and lower-body flexibility, he will have a tough time moving laterally with NFL defensive ends and preventing them from bull-rushing him back into the quarterback."

Does anyone know how did Clemson OT Hairston performed?

BTW anyone heard Mike Pouncey pulled out of senior bowl. Not sure why would he do it unless he is convinced Steelers are drafting him at 32.

                    found this write-up on Hairston:

CHRIS HAIRSTON/OT/CLEMSON is a massive man (6’6/330) who looks well put together and moves better than I expected from a guy his size. he reminds me of BARRY RICHARDSON, who now starts at RT for the CHIEFS after going undrafted 2 years ago. He should be a solid mid-Round Pick watching him hold his own down here.

Hairston looked decent but really struggles with speed. He is a big and powerful man but will probably be a RTO or a guard.

He has that nice size at 6’2"/195 lbs and is willing to bump the receivers and has reacted well to the thrown balls with an INT and several knock downs. He’ll get some serious scrutiny at the COMBINE and his Pro Day."

The thing about Allen is he is best at press man and needs that aspect in his game to be successful. As we all know the Steelers are an off-man scheme.
