Washington Schoolboy Sent Home For Wearing Steelers Jersey

If you want to show your team spirit at this school, it had better be the right team.

A Washington state schoolboy was sent home Friday after wearing a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey on a specially designated day of support for the local Seattle Seahawks, according to a report.

Grendon Bailie, a 13-year-old at Tacoma's Truman Middle School, was sent home Friday for what school administrators deemed inappropriate clothing, Seattle's komonews.com reported.

The school has a strict dress code and said it had lifted it that day only for Seahawks apparel or colors. The school had also specifically warned students not to wear anything besides their uniforms or Seahawks garb, and Bailie even asked if it was acceptable to wear Steelers gear but was told no, the report said.

Still, Bailie wishes he could have shown support for his own team.

"Not everyone is a Seahawks fan — and if they got to wear their team stuff then I should, too," he said, according to the report.

Bailie's father sent him to school with a note explaining his decision, but the report says school officials refused to read it.

The Seahawks face the Bears this weekend in an NFC divisional round playoff game. The Steelers host the Ravens in an AFC playoff clash.

Pittsburgh beat Seattle 21-10 five years ago in Super Bowl XL.

Adhere to the dress code or go home. If you don't like following dress codes don't send your kid to a school with a dress code.

I don't see the problem here.

Agreed. The wearing of the Seahawks jersey was considered a a "privilage". It seems the school was clear and the boy disobeyed school policy. In society, we don't always agree with the rules...so you have two choices...obey or disobey and accept consequences. Seems like a natural cause and effect to me.

F@ck that Shawn, you can wear one jersey, but not the Steelers jersey? They made one exception to the policy, but why stop there? A policy is put into place to be the POLICY. When you make exceptions for one standard, you make exceptions for others. GEESH! and DOUBLE OI!

            Just sour grapes. That's all.

He should have worn a SuperSonics jersey with "Moved out of this ****h0le" on the back.

Garbage. A seahawks uniform is NOT school uniform.

If he wore a Raiders or a Broncos jersey do you think there would have been an uproar? Seahawks fans are STILL bawling about 2005.

lol...gotta love that kinda response. Unfortunately for this Steeler fan the school makes the rules. It's kinda like wacky hat day at the local schools. It's not wacky glasses day, it's not wear your slippers to school day...it's wacky hat day. Wear what they ask of you or go home. It really is pretty simple.

True. Not sure where sanka came from. Salad?

Anyways, I won't step foot into a Starbucks, or spend money there more like. I've seen enough.
