Harbaugh: I was glad we broke [Roethlisberger's] nose

A smiling Harbaugh: "I was glad we broke [Roethlisberger's] nose"
    By Dan Kolko, January 10, 2011 5:22 PM | 0 Comments
One of the lasting images from the last time the Ravens and Steelers met back in Week 13 was blood trickling down Ben Roethlisberger's face after catching an inadvertent left hand to the nose from defensive tackle Haloti Ngata.
Roethlisberger suffered a broken nose as a result of the first quarter hit, but played through the injury and threw for 253 yards and the game-winning touchdown.
With the Ravens preparing to face the Steelers this Saturday in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was asked about Roethlisberger's toughness that day.
Harbaugh complimented the Steelers quarterback, who, like Harbaugh, attended Miami University [Ohio].
"I was impressed," Harbaugh said. "He's a Miami guy. He's a tough guy. He had the broken nose."
    Harbaugh then cracked a smile.
"I was glad we broke his nose," Harbaugh said, with his tongue planted in his cheek, "and then I was very impressed that he played through it. Obviously, you can throw very effectively with a broken nose. He proved that."
That comment seems like it's more likely to come from Terrell Suggs than it is from John Harbaugh, but I like it. It might be Steelers week, but Harbaugh is still able to crack a few light-hearted jokes at the Steelers' expense.
Harbaugh said the Ravens' strategy for slowing Roethlisberger will be the same as it was that day back in early December - bring pressure at the Pittsburgh quarterback make sure to wrap him up and bring him down.
"We're going to try and get after him like we always do," Harbaugh said. "It's going to be real important. He knows that. That's the key to stopping him - you've got to get him down. You can't let him extend plays and when he does extend plays, you've got to cover those guys. And that's easier said than done."

I know it's a Florio type post by me...but I'm freaking pumped and anything anti Steelers is getting me all riled up. Bring it on!

I hear ya cos. I'd think it would be classic if we won on some crazy contraversial play. Then MT could sit with a smug smile and joke about how funny it was to win....again.

I don't want to win on a late score or anything controversial. I want the Steelers to kick the living sh!t out of the Ratbirds this go-round. Like I said on another post, an azz-kicking ala the Monday nighter in '07 would work very well for me.

Yeah, I know NW, I do too. But, it rubs them so hard when they lose on a controversial play, it'll haunt them the whole offseason. LOL

Harbaugh is such a smug little *itch. He says stuff, but his face usually tells what he's really saying. In this case, he breaks all rules of NFL coaches and says what he's only supposed to think. Like saying prior to last game that his team understood the illegal hits rules perfectly (then whining when his guys get fined for obvious illegal hits). How stupid for a guy readying his team to play a team like the Steelers. Does he not think that comment goes directly up on the bulletin board? Why would you poke someone like Roethlisberger that already plays with a chip on his shoulder?

Nothing, I mean nothing, would make me happier than the Steelers waxing these second class degenerates in this game. I'm talking, Roethlisberger and Polamalu sitting on the bench cracking jokes to start the 4th quarter.

Harbaugh just fits in so nicely with the classless idiots on that team. Him and Suggs have diarrhea of the mouth. I hope the Steelers make him pay.

If someone on the Steelers made a similar comment, there would be a $15,000 fine levied by the league.

Re: Harbaugh: I was glad we broke [Roethlisberger's] nose

You'd think he'd be disappointed that his team was beaten by a guy with a broken nose.

I hope we hit Flacco so hard that he leaves the game with two distinct eyebrows.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

One of the Steelers should blast Hairball in the snod on their way to cover a kick or a punt.

Yep. James said he wasn't opposed to hurting someone and he's had the bullseye on his back ever since.

Looks like we have ourselves yet another full fledged conspiracy theorist?

Hide under the covers, 2012 is coming!

Yeah, had nothing to do with him leading with the helmet and tackling in a manner the rules do not allow?

And Ryan Clark? He said the game is ruined, then hit a guy in the BACK, and was flagged for a "helmet to helmet" hit.
