Goodell is such a turd - names lott & madden to safety panel

Steelers are still going to be screwed. Madden hates the Steelers.

NEW YORK -- Hall of Famers Ronnie Lott and John Madden will co-chair an NFL panel aimed at improving player safety.

Commissioner Roger Goodell announced the NFL Player Safety Advisory Panel on Tuesday. It will consist of former NFL players, coaches and general managers and make recommendations to Goodell on various safety issues.

Other committee members are former players Antonio Freeman, Patrick Kerney, Willie Lanier, Anthony Munoz, former coach Marty Schottenheimer and former general manager Ernie Accorsi.

The NFL said the panel is supposed to produce recommendations to improve player safety by reviewing rules, equipment standards and game video, among other things.

NFL executive Ray Anderson said Goodell wants input from former players and coaches. The announcement comes a day after New Mexico Sen. Tom Udall asked the Federal Trade Commission to investigate what he says are misleading claims in the selling of new and reconditioned football helmets.

In his letter to FTC chairman Jon Leibowitz, Udall says he is "troubled by misleading marketing claims by Riddell, a leading helmet maker that supplies the official helmet to the National Football League."

Udall also wants the FTC to "look into potential false and deceptive practices related to the reconditioning of used helmets."

The hardest hitting safety of all time, and Jack Tatum's coach when he was out there paralyzing people (and later glorifying big hits when calling games as well as on his video games with his "BOOM!" schtick that got him Tough Actin Tinactin commercials)? Great choices for a safety panel.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

The choices are almost laughable and I agree totally with RB.

Why not have Lambert, Mean Joe, Deebo, Ward, etc on the committee?

Or dirty players like Rodney Harrison?

In all seriousness, the game has changed so much in the last 10 years, I think we need more current players. None of these guys really understands what it is to be a 250lber that can sprint like an Olympic runner.

I think James Harrison's mom should be on the panel!

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Police in Ohio say the mother of Pittsburgh Steelers star James Harrison (FSY) has been charged with assault following a brawl at a game-watching party in a community hall.

Akron police say 62-year-old Mildred Harrison was one of three people cited after the fight at a Veterans of Foreign Wars post Thursday.

Police say it's not clear why the party turned violent about 10 p.m., during Cleveland's 13-6 upset of division foe Pittsburgh.

Victims have told police they were pushed, punched and struck with beer bottles.

Harrison is due in Akron Municipal Court on Thursday. She declined to comment to the Akron Beacon-Journal when reached by telephone at her Akron home Friday.

James Harrison was the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year in 2008.
