    The Current State of Affairs

This is looking more and more like a Super Bowl champion as the preseason days roll by. There's too many positives to count, but I'll try.

    1. Pouncey - I'll admit I was disappointed how early we selected a center versus other higher value positions. But now I'm loving him. This kid looks like the real deal. And I'm glad the team has already inserted him at C. The line will need some time to gel, but I'm seeing a great future with Pouncey in the middle.

    2. Ben looks ready to roll for game 5. And boy does he have something to prove. This suspension is going to turn into a blessing that ends with SuperBowl #3.

    3. Defense - Everyone looks healthy and guys are hustling. Not many teams have DEs like Brett Keisel that run down RBs to push them out of bounds on 3rd down in meaningless preseason games. Brett has nothing to prove, but he plays like he does. Everything starts up front with Keisel, Smitty, and Snack. And the best DLine in the NFL looks hungry. And behind them, it looks like Harrison and Troy will be competing for NFL DMVP again. Woodley having something to prove without a long term contract. And Mr Timmons looks healthy and ready to be let out of his cage to fly.

I have a feeling this year's D could make the D from 2 seasons ago look pedestrian.

    4. The Backup QB - We can win with Dixon, Lefty, or Batch. Tomlin should name Charlie Leftdix the starter already. Or Byron Batchdix. Or Denny Batchwich. Who cares, it's just someone not named Ben and they'll be fine. And we're going 4-0. Plus that'll up the pressure on Ben. Oh yeah!

    5. The RB situation. I like seeing Mendy and Red in the backfield together. Exciting stuff. However, Mr Arians should not take Moore off the field ever. He's just too valuable. More valuable than the 2nd or 3rd TE or any fat slob FB you want to put in the game. He's always open in the passing game. And is an easy 5-8 yards any time we want it - which should be all the time. Moore would make it so easy on Denny Batchwich over the first 4 games. The problem is Brucey's overthinking things again. There's a lot of talent at the skill positions and a bunch of TEs on the roster that are blowing his mind with possibilities. But Moore is worth so much more. And Brucey is probably overlooking him a bit. Lean on Moore, when you're not strong. He'll help you carry on.....

    6. Young talent - I like Gay and Wood and Timmons and Pouncey and Lewis and Ziggy and Redman. I think there's gonna be an emergence of youth on this team that's gonna push us to greater heights. I know Lewis is in the doghouse, but I like his size and tackling and think he can eventually be as effectie as Ike.

    7. Tomlin is sounding like a broken record. This is good. If I know how Tomlin's gonna answer most questions, so do the players and coaches. This feels like the fist season we can start to really judge Mike on how welll he's doing as a coach. At the end of the day, I suspect we're all gonna give him more credit than he deserves because Big Ben is gonna be sooo good and carry this team.

The current state of affairs with Hood is a question mark for me. I would think we would be seeing more out of him but he really hasn't distinguished himself as a number one draft pick. I'm not asking for him to be the next Joe Green but I would think you would see him causing some disruptions at times.

I've narrowed down my porn name possibilities to Charlie Leftdix or Byron Batchdix. :P
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I think I'll go with Captain Flipdix.

I think many were saying the same of Timmons around this point of his NFL life. Now he's looking to be the beast of our LB corp perhaps. Hood is simmering...just be patient. I think if he gets called to duty, he will perform. And we will need to keep those guys fresh, so he'll get time in the rotation.

I think Ziggy's going to get a lot of playing time this year and I'm hoping he does well with it. I think he and Wood would look awfully good on the left side of the line together for the next eight or nine years.

............of course we have to sign Wood.....

                hey flippy,

love your optimism, hope you're right about the defense because i just can't see Lefty or Dixon putting a lot of points up on the scoreboard (for us, anyway).
