    Verron Haynes

just an interesting note on verron haynes... i follow him on twitter, and i think at least once a day he mentions how badly he wants to play for the Steelers again. says he's in great shape. I was always kinda bummed we let him go.

I always liked Verron as well.

He seemed to have a lot of skills- but just not quite good enough at any one of them- to make it.

I see he is with the Falcons now, but didn't play in 2008.

I could have sworn I saw the Raiders had picked him up. Must have been Gary Russel I was thinking of.

He is one tweetin' fool, isn't he?

And unlike a lot of players he actually responds to them.

I always liked the guy too. He and Freddy Mac were both very good role players who helped move the chains. Wouldn't bother me to have him back on the roster.

Oh wow. I still think Twitter and Facebook are dangerous for people in the public eye but that's off topic.

Haynes was a jack of all trades / master of none type of player. He wasn't quite big enough, fast enough, strong enough, talented enough, etc. But he played hard, he played hurt and he sure has heck tried. You can get a lot out of decent but not great talent when you're twenty four by out working everyone else but once you get into your thirtys and have ten years of an NFL beating on you I just don't see how the guy can do it.

Maybe if he doesn't crack the Falcons lineup this year we can give him a one day contract so he can "retire a Steeler".

Great description of Haynes. I liked him as a Steeler, but the screen passes to him on third and long drove me nuts. I'm not sure that I ever remember one of them being converted.

I'm shocked to hear that he is still in the league. With Turner, Snelling and Norwood, I imagine he'll have a hard time making the roster in Atlanta.

Nice little third down back for the Steelers. Always liked the effort he put out on the field. And I love hearign stories of players who want to come back to the team. It's jusat too bad we have a few players on this team right now which have already filled his void (Moore, Redman). No room for him, but I love the "retire a Steeler" idea.

If something happened to Moore, then he's a replacement candidate. Otherwise, and its unfortunate, there's no place for him on the Steelers.
I mean, there's no place for me either, but I love to root for him. So at least he had some fun moments for them and know can root for them as a player which has to be more fun than I have!

I met Verron one night standing in the check out line at the Giant Eagle across from St. Vincents.

An elderly lady in front of me tapped him on the shoulder and asked if he was a Steeler and he turned and smiled and said "yes". They spoke for a moment and then I told him I was really rooting for him that year.

He is the only Steeler who, when he signed his autograph for me that night, wrote "Go Steelers!" under his name.

I believe he would LOVE to come back and play for us again.

Haynes certainly played a positive role but it was his time. The problem...we have not really replaced him with anyone better. Our RB depth is still an issue and I'm not sold on Moore.

Who is RH? Do you mean Mendenhall? I am very sold on Mendy. But, our back up situation looks bleak. I'm hoping Redman can step up...but only time will tell.

Verron was the greatest Steeler ever on 3rd down draw plays!!
