    Steeler Ring of Honor

They're doing a poll on the Fan about having a Steeler ring of honor. Three people a year get to go with one being offensive, defensive and administrative. here's my picks.

1st Year: Chuck Noll, Terry Bradshaw, Joe Green

2nd Year: Art Rooney, Franco Harris, Jack Lambert

3rd Year: Bill Cowher, Lynn Swann, Jack ham

4th Year: Bill Nun, John Stallworth, Mel Blount

5th Year: Dick Lebeau, Jerrome Bettis, Rod Woodson

6th Year: Bud Carson, Louie Lipps, Greg Llyod

i would prefer a really cool walk into the stadium and call it the Hall of Champions (statues to either side so you walk between them).

    Art Rooney Dan Rooney
    Chuck Noll Bill Cowher
    ofensive players defensive players

and the players would be those that are or should be in the hall and a few other coaches administrators (Lebeau, myron cope etc.).

Why in God's name would we do something that the Cowboys do? We should be distancing ourselves from them as much as possible...in particular, the number of SB wins.

Besides our honor has always been the Hall of Fame. How many years of this Ring of Honor crap would it take to catch up to our Hall of Fame players/contributors?

This doesn't make sense AND will never be done.

There is already a Walk of Fame in the Great Hall at Heinz. It has lockers set up for numerous Steeler greats behind glass with plenty of memorabilia for people to see, take pictures of, etc.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I'm all for honoring the Steeler greats, but it needs to be done in a way that is distinctly Steeler related and not knocking off another teams idea (Cowboys, ring of fame or ring honor or whatever they call it).

I don't know what that is, but it should be unique and distinctively Steeler.

The Cowboys' Ring of Honor was around the old Texas Stadium...did they re-create that in Jerry Jones' new monolith he built to honor himself?

              I'm all for it.

Almost every team has this type of thing in their stadium. (I can not think of any that I have been in- that don't have it- aside from the Steelers' stadiums.)

The point being- it wouldn't be copying any particular team- everyone does it.

But the thing it does - it gives recognition to those players and the legacy of the team- to everyone- each game, and even to some extent- to the viewers watching the game on TV, not just the few that walk into the "great hall" or the HOF.

As for who should be on it-
Clearly, all the HOF guys... but also some of the other players that should be, but are not
              -Dawson
              -Greenwood
              -Shell

              Throw in
              -Kolb
              -Wagner
-Jeremy Staadt (just checking to see if you're paying attention)

They'd have to put up a big wall in the back of the open end zone. Too many greats to fit on a ring.

They could call it The Great Wall.

I take pride in the fact that we DON'T do what everyone else does. Not (officially) retiring numbers for example. I think Heinz Field does a great job in honoring our past and present heroes. I wouldn't change a thing!

It doesn't need to be called the ring of honor but, there does seem to be an excitement about honoring our past players that didn't and did make it to the HOF. We could call it the Hall of Gold and Black or walking on Gold or .....................

Again, it would take 3 decades of this honor to get through the Hall of Fame players who would deserve it first. So a guy like Greenwood would have to wait for ever just to make this Wall of important players.

Maybe they should honor a certain number of players from every team from the beginning. But each player gets only 1 year. So Greenwood and Wagner could be honored in that fashion, since Green and Blunt could only be honored in 1 year. So you get like 3-5 top players from a season, minus guys already honored. Might work, though I haven't studied it much.

I like that. I dont want the Steelers calling it what every other team calls it---"Ring of Honor". That would be lame. We are different than every other team and we should not follow suit.

And any list that doesnt have Art Sr first is Blasphemy. If there's no Art Sr---then there's no Steelers!!
