would really read:

Mr. Washington's mother summoned police around 2:25 a.m. to report that her son took the ax from the shed and dropped it repeatedly. After finally securing the ax, he was headed up Lilac Street from their Kenmont Avenue home, according an affidavit that supports his arrest.
