OK, Dog chasing Cat, I checked it out, and here are the facts-- your timeline is wrong... it was actually TWO years ago that Rooney, talking about not winning in the playoffs, said, "We’ve had enough of this. It’s time to get some wins. It’s time to take the next steps. There is some urgency here, for sure." Rooney then went on to AFFIRM his faith in Mike TOMLIN as the head coach who would lead the Steelers to that playoff success: “We still feel good about Mike. If I didn’t, we’d make a change. If I didn’t think Mike could lead us to a championship, he wouldn’t be here.” Then, a few months later, prior to the 2024 season, Rooney EXTENDED Tomlin's contract (June 2024)! Last week, after Tomlin submitted his resignation, Rooney said that he was not looking to fire the HC, but was "willing to take another run" with Tomlin. Of course I understand that every conversation between Rooney and Tomlin was not disclosed, but again, I could find no evidence that there was ever anything like an ultimatum given to Tomlin. It's purely speculation on your part. If you look at AR2's track record, it seems to me to be much more likely that he's being honest, that he actually wanted to keep Tomlin onboard, but Tomlin decided it was time to go.
