In line with the topic of this thread I simultaneously have more concern about making the playoffs at all than typical yet for the first time recently feel like we can beat anyone in the playoffs on a good day.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

    TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

I don't feel like we can beat the Chiefs with Mahomes. It's been embarassing every time he's played us.

The box of chocolates analogy is spot on. This team looks like a group of different guys from week to week. One week, the defense is getting torched. The next, the offense can't get out of its own way and Rodgers forgets how to throw.

This just doesn't feel like a group that wants to play for each other. That believes in the system and the coaches. Everyone seems like they're going through the motions except for a select few.

We should have had a few interceptions last night. And one of them reminded me of the kind of play that Troy Polamalu would make routinely. I forget who it was, but he got his hands under the ball and then just flipped the ball away from himself like it was the first time he's been around a ball.

Was that Pierre? He shoulda had that one, but I thought, overall, he did a pretty good job in this one after having to step in.

If they don't win the next two, Steelers fans won't even get the joy of that first round playoff elimination.

I'd settle for the joy of avoiding that first round playoff HUMILIATION. We haven't even been competitive in the playoffs in forever. And honestly, if we're not able to be competitive again this season, then I'd rather not even make the playoffs.

This goes to my original post. It is simultaneously less likely that we make the playoffs, yet IF we get there it is more likely that we can beat someone because this team has no pattern. The fact that the quality of the foe has been rendered meaningless in our win loss record means we can both beat or lose to anyone. Consider also our remaining schedule. As it stands I doubt we make the playoffs because it is brutal. But if we make the playoffs it almost requires beating several quality teams to get there. It would confirm that on any given week we have a chance to lose OR WIN. I would not put money on the Steelers in the playoffs, but we have a punchers chance if we get there against anyone. Nearly every phase of the game has soared AND crashed.

NR Believe me now. A few weeks ago, defense was straight garbage against THIS SAME TEAM. Takeaway? Good OR bad, I would not say, it represents who this team is. If we make the playoffs, should THIS defense, RB play, AND early season Rodgers? I like our chances more than consistent "above averge". If we win 10 games, it is a different 10 wins than we have seen.

Watching the Eagles on SNF and this defense reminds me of what the Steelers D used to be. The depth, the penetration from D line...exotic blitz, schemes. It makes me realize how the identity of this franchise has changed. It just always feels vanilla.

Won't change unless someone gives Rooney some Alzheimer's medicine so he can mentally join the rest of us in the new millinium.

What changed on defense? We played way more zone and put Ramsey at safety.

Hopefully those changes hold up with similar results against the upcoming onslaught of better teams in the Bears, Bills, Rats, Lions.
