it was a strange day at Heinz. The crowd (including me) had ZERO faith in the team today. Cheered when appropriate, a few boos - also when appropriate. I know the NFL is a week to week league, but after the last several weeks it was hard to find any optimism about today. Who the heck knows what team will show up next week in LA? The turnovers today were great to see. Rodgers in his presser was correct - the execution of the offense was poor. I didn't mind Tomlin going for it on 4th and 3 - but it didn't feel like he was being aggressive, it felt more like desperation. Nevertheless, it was fun to see the defense look like a productive unit. It was frustrating to see missed opportunities when a simple reception was dropped. Can someone smarter than me explain why the muffed punt wasn't a score? I didn't see a fair catch called. Is that really a rule the ball can't be advanced? I am very happy with the win, a dub next week could be really significant. But like every other fan in the stadium, there was no moment in this contest where I was able to relax and be confident the win was secure. 17 point lead in the 4th with a Tomlin coached team? You just knew the colts were still in it. Don't get me started on Roman Wilson - although it sure looked like after the Porter interception he was about to go on the field, and I think Rodgers pointed him back to the bench. If the Defense can just play average, and the offense can clean up some basic skills - I still think (if they peak in Dec) there's a chance at a run in January. But we are still a ways off from the elite teams IMO. a few last second random thoughts. Jalen Ramsey was a stud today moving to FS. I think Slay possibly is exaggerating injuries to hopefully provide an excuse for the dropoff in his play I don't know if it's a testament to Dugger or an insult to the unit that he was able to play nearly every snap - and do it quite effectively. The Colts offense is very good this year - but the idea or DB's can play man coverage seems to be an illusion. Our defense had a real edge today. It was very energetic. It also made for a rousing rendition of Renegade. Lastly, seeing the last 20 minutes of the Bungles collapse was the perfect ending to this day.2014 MNF EXEC CHAMPION!!!Comment

How many times.have you seen a Tomlin lead team blow a 17 point lead? There are lots of reasons for criticism, but this is not one. Tomlin (like Cowher before him) is criticized because he plays safe when ahead by more than 2 scores. It scares fans but in reality rarely loses games. Throwing a pick 6 or allowing a deep is the best way to let an opponent back in the game because they take no time. Playing safe on offense and defense let's the clock work in your favor. Frequently, the game gets closer, but you are less likely to lose than by playing aggressively.sigpic
In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

For me Jalen Ramsey’s hit on Michael Pittman didn’t get enough attention. I know it was a penalty but being old school it was my favorite highlight of that entire game.Obviously the standard is the standard.Comment

You are right Lemming. But i think there is middle ground between turtle ball & throwing it up for grabs. Also i'd like to make a note that it seems right now if the Defense can't get turnovers we lose if The defense gets turnovers we win. That's the biggest factor i've noticed. The D can't stop anyone for the majority of the game but can be really disruptive on defensive splash plays.Comment

Starlifter - there is a specific rule that says you are not allowed to advance a muffed punt. The "logic" behind it is if he muffs it, he never had possession, so it is considered different than a fumble. If he catches it, secures it and then fumbles while retuerning it, that could be advanced.sigpicComment

"Apparently today will be a contest to see if the O or the D sucks the most. Should have kicked the FG to at least get some points." Ghost overreaction post.Comment

Thx Ghost. Weird. I thought I knew all the rules - but for some reason I thought as soon as the ball touches a player on the receiving team, it’s a live ball and can be advanced.2014 MNF EXEC CHAMPION!!!Comment

Poor Ghost name calling. Sorry if you are new to the NFL game Ghost. The Steelers didn't lose the game after one quarterr. It was a 7-0 game after the 1st QT. An NFL game has 4 quarters. Anything can happen in 4 quarters. My question for you is this. Why haven't you learned that an NFL game is 4 quarters?Comment
