Is that why we rank #30 in yards allowed per game & #21 in pojnts allowed per game, because Tomlin is at the top of his game? Was he at the top of his game when the Ravens rushed for 300 yards in the playoffs & the Ravens players were pointing at the Steelers sideline during the game & laughing because Tomlin couldn't adjust?
The end of the Tomlin Era

Well, that's what I'm afraid of...that he's as good as he's gonna ever get...which means about the best we can hope for is 9 or 10 wins, with a one-and-done should we happen to make the playoffs.Originally posted by BURGH86STEELTomlin is still coaching at the top of his game.Comment

WOW. Seriously? That's your fear, who are we going to hire? I'm sure there were people who feared that after Chuck Noll. And people who feared that after Bill Cowher. Dude, Tomlin has been at this for EIGHTEEN years. This will be his 19th season. And we've won a playoff game in 4 of them. So, if things go the way they seem to be going, it'll be 15 years out of 19 without a playoff win. At what point do you say, "Enough is ENOUGH?!".Originally posted by BURGH86STEELTomlin is still coaching at the top of his game. Eich who are you going to hire to replace Tomlin?
My answer is that I'M not going to hire anyone. The Steelers have ownership and a front office that finds talent. You can't keep extending Tomlin into his 70's because you fear you can't find someone to replace him. While he's won a ton of regular season games, his playoff record is becoming embarrassing for both him and the team. A fresh start would be good for all parties.
Look at the cheating Patriots. They went from the god of football coaches and jettisoned him shortly after Brady left. Now they're playing well again under Vrabel. I'd take Vrabel in a heartbeat right now over Tomlin.

The Patriots have better management than us. They identified both their QB & head coach of the future and now their arrow is clearly pointing up.Comment

Oh great Eich. We gotta learn to write code to create simple saces in this dying forum. LOL.sigpic
In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Steelers management is starting to feel like the management of this board. Just sit back and let the product flail around for a while. The Patriots have better management than us. They identified both their QB & head coach of the future and now their arrow is clearly pointing up.
I think it's time for a Rooney to step up and start setting higher expectations. He doesn't need to come on the field and start taking notes like the Colts' Carlie Irsay-Gordon - LOL, that's truly odd to see. But we need a bigger shake up.😂 1Comment

The patriots tried their Rooney rule experiment with mayo. A young up and coming assistant who would be able to get to the modern day player They quickly ended that and seem to have taking leaps ahead. You got to wonder if the Steelers didn't have such a talent roster, a veteran roster, in place when Carol left if the same would have happened to TomlinComment

Eich: I started off being against what Irsay is doing. But now I kinda think that all owners should be listening in on what happens on game day. Never talking though.Comment

I'm not completely against what she's doing though I don't think it's really appropriate or necessary on the gameday sidelines. I think it would be a distraction. But if I was an owner, I'd definitely be paying attention. And while I applaud the stability the Steelers bring to the coaching staff, NINETEEN years is too long IMO, unless you've shown some playoff success in the last decade. I'll never get over this stat: 4 seasons out of going-on-19, with a playoff win. I would not tolerate that as an owner.Originally posted by NBEich: I started off being against what Irsay is doing. Unfortunately I don’t see Rooney making a change at HC until Tomlin wants to move on. There will be that “conversation” with MT at the end of year about hiring a DC & TA will be gone. I believe AS now has shown his time is up. I believe there will be a new OC in 2026 & it will be one who has shown the ability to develop young QBs. This will be the Big Change but I think Tomlin remains. I wanted to move on from him 3 years ago but it won’t happen. So we have to fix best we can now. There are no fixes you can just pull off the couch so make do. AS Jr last visit is Steelers. He made his visits & now has his price tag. Dads #22 is now available. MVS to 53. K Williams cut & back to PS. Miller may handle punt returns but if that finger is an issue send him to IR keep Williams up. I wanted to sign Mecole Hardman for PR but Bills just did. I would also sign OT Carter Warren off Falcons PS & get him up to speed. Time to have someone in here better than Anderson so Jones starts looking over his shoulder. Not great options.Comment

2 important factors. The Steelers haven't fired a HC since the 60's. Art II isn't about to make history - it's not in his DNA. With the draft in Pittsburgh next year, I doubt they want the story to also be a rookie HC. Tomlin ain't going anywhere unless HE chooses to leave. And he's smart enough to know the best job and the longest leash out there is here in Pittsburgh. No other organization in all of sports (other than perhaps the Bengals) would tolerate such a postseason drought. I cheer and hope for the Steelers to win every week, I'll never hope that they lose. But if they must lose a game, I want it to be a blowout so bad our current state of mediocrity can't be ignored. On the other hand, they did move to sign MVS and AS in the last 2 weeks. I'm hopeful a WR who was on no ones dream list and an CB with a fused spine will be the missing pieces to turn this team into a juggernaught.2014 MNF EXEC CHAMPION!!!Comment
