Pickens: Excited to run “better plays"

Yet another former player takes a not-so-veiled shot at the simplistic Steelers offense.

Wednesday’s “First Call” has an interesting quote from former Pittsburgh Steeler George Pickens in Dallas. T.J. Watt speaks in advance of training camp after making his new contract official. And the UFL is going through major changes. Tough to misinterpret George Pickens said something Tuesday that I’m sure will get

Jalen Ramsey said he hated the game and life in general when he was in Miami but now he has new life in Pittsburgh.

Players usually say great things about their new team.

      He aint lying tho.. lol.

If he keeps his head out of his arse he should have a big year.

          Agreed.

I just wouldn't want to be the team next year that ends up giving him a huge contract.

Do you expect players to put them blame on themselves when a team gives up on them?

Players talking about how the new team (coach, QB, culture, etc) is better is just as expected as when the local media writes negative articles about players when they leave.

Personally, I don't put too much stock in either opinion.

My guess is that Pickens won't take well to being a WR2 in Dallas without any kind of extension. But you never know. Sometimes having a team give up on you is enough to scare you straight. Although so far, all of our "problem child" WRs have fallen apart after leaving.

I'd rather have Pickens at 90% effort than Van Jefferson, Robert Woods or Calvin Austin at 100% . And you have to know Pickens is correct our offensive playbook is not Joe Walsh-ish

And how does that look to teammates busting themselves 100%? There is a reason why teammates wanted him gone.

Well first of , i don't agree with Pickens not giving 100% as some fans say. But be aware, Seattle fans said the EXACT SAME THING about Metcalf. And fans said that bout Ben in his early years. Didn't work hard enough, didn't watch film like Peyton Manning.

I almost hate yinzer fans. We sure wouldn't have had the 1970's Steelers dynasy if we had social media then & the press presence we now have.

Pickens is on tape jogging routes or even stopping mid-route. There's a difference between game prep and in-game. No one ever accused Roethlisberger of taking plays off.

I'm not following this at all. I don't think "yinzer fans" are much different than other fans, other than there are more of them/us.

I also don't see how social media & the press would have had any impact on the 70's Steelers dominance. Are you saying that social media & the press are impacting the current Steelers' ability to be great?!

It's literally on game film. Why do you think the Steelers got rid of him? Because of social media and fan pressure?

Tomlin admitted to coddling him because he was talented. I imagine that’s what led to some of the comments by guys like TJ, Minkah, and Cam regarding not everyone being committed.

Must suck watching your HC run cover for the team cancer.

                            Truth.
That is why we will never be able to extend Watt. He wants out of this place BAD.
Dude is as good as gone next season.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

                            TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

Yup, and why a veteran QB like Aaron Rodgers will never come here to play.

Tomlin has completely lost this team.

                              Obviously.
