Mike from Iowa: My friends and I out here in Iowa are pleasantly surprised with Yahya. Maybe the Hawkeyes coached him to be more concerned about containing the QB instead of rushing? Maybe it’s Karl Dunbar? Whatever it is, I haven’t seen consistent pass rush like this from him. Based off his scouting reports, I don’t think I’m alone. I know it’s early, but he looks like a future starter. With Cam’s age, that would be huge. Castro is always around the ball and has shown strong tackling. I hope that’s enough for him to make it on ST. I think he’s a PS guy at the worst.
Brian: Sebastian Castro did indeed make the practice squad, and he’ll work hard to contribute on special teams while he waits, but I’m not sure he’ll ever have the range or quickness to be an NFL contributor on defense.
As for Yahya Black, he’s been nothing short of a revelation. He wasn’t on my radar going into the draft other than me thinking “large man, very stout, low ceiling, maybe not a very high floor.” And clearly, I was wrong.
One thing you can’t measure in the draft — or even evaluate on video — is how a player will adapt to life in the NFL, apply himself to the job and adjust to the game. Black is checking all of those boxes thus far.
