remember when the steelers were known for drafting wrs?

    wilson
    pickens
    austin
    claypool
    johnson
    washington
    smith schuster
    ayres
    coates
    archer
    bryant
    wheaton
    brown
    clemeons
this was our last 13 years of wr drafts.
the vast majority of these wrs were 3rd round or higher…YIKES
How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?

There is talent. It's just that the talent wasn't enough to overcome the meatheadedness. 4-5 of those guys fall into that category, IMO.

      You forgot Many Sanders.
I would suggest that list features a whole lot of production without drafting A SINGLE FIRST ROUNDER.

Last first rounder we drafted was in fact SB MVP.

How bout you narrow your search to non-first rounders with any other team and see what their list looks like.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

whatever struggles between "the Steelers have no talent" vs "the Steelers are stacked with talent". This post looks like it falls on the "the Steelers have no talent" side.

From 2004 to 2021 the Steelers had Big Ben under center, except for 2019. He made WRS good. A HOF QB makes the WR.

As an example, look at Dionte Johnson. He was a Pro Bowl WR with Big Ben. What is he now?

Any conclusion about WRS on the Steelers taken during Big Ben's career cannot be made without considering his impact. Drawing a statistical conclusion ignores the bias of Big Ben, HOF QB.

Bingo, and to expand on the DJ point, he was a pro-bowler in 2021 with a washed up, 39 year old, shell of his former self, Ben Roethlisberger.

Really? If we can’t judge receivers I guess this thread is moot.
                But to DJ specifically?

Ben was injured during his rookie season. Who was QB when DJ caught more passes than ANY ROOKIE Ben had thrown to at that point in his career?

Mason and Duck who played backup caliber football.

Proof that Tomlin and the Steelers just haven't had the talent to be able to compete in the playoffs.

This doesn’t really hold up as well as some think. Sure, some of our WR’s failed once they left Ben but

Burress was a SB MVP before he shot himself in the leg.

Manny Sander won a SB with Peyton Manning in Denver when Peyton was a shell of himself.

AB won a SB in Tampa.. then he went completely nuts. Still think that Burfict hit changed his career.

JuJu won a SB in KC during his first stint.

I was never impressed with DJ as a WR. Precise route runner but a head case. He made a pro primarily on 3 and 5 yard routes.
