    This draft exploded ANOTHER myth

That being the media draft experts don’t know dick. Shedeur Sanders was a top 2 pick a couple months ago. The day of the draft he was going at 1.9, 1.21, or early 2nd.

Nobody wanted to touch him with a 10-foot pole for 4+ rounds because they knew things nobody else did.

Now the same guys who were so wildly wrong for the 100th draft in a row will now grade the draft based on THEIR boards, telling these same NFL teams that they still know better.

I thought Mel Kiper was going to have a coronary crying about Sanders.

I wrote elsewhere that the media and scouts had access to the same college tapes. What the talking heads don't have access to are the one on one meetings. Based on the Sanders Slide we can now say these meetings did not go well with team reps. How else do you explain the difference in ranking?

Steelers seemed to have focused on guys with good character. They shied away from the Pickens of the draft.

They have access to tape, but I’m guessing maybe they’re not as good as the scouts the teams have. They also don’t seemingly be able to discern the BS and smoke that gets leaked to them.

of course these are the same individuals that give the steelers drafts As and our fanboys proclaim they are reputable and know more than anyone that doesn’t give them an A.
          do there’s that.
How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?

And now they’re starting their 2026 mock drafts, would prefer the review their 2022 mocks vs. actual draft vs. results.

But that won’t get clicks. It’s our fault, really, we gobble this shyte up with a spoon.

I remember as a kid reading about Walter Abercrombie in the newspaper the following day, and then, like, watching him play on Sundays.

I think the media woefully underestimated how the NFL (owners and team leadership) view the activities prior to the draft. Outside of truly generational talents (few and far between); I think there is an expectation for players to prepare for and try to win their bowl games, especially QBs. Get an invite to the Senior bowl - accept it. When it come time for the NFL combine - show up and work out hard. Be prepared to answer tough questions at the interview and don't sandbag them or act as if the player is doing the team a favor by just showing up.

I think the NFL wanted to let players know - if there are even the slightest questions about your abilities in any area of your game, we expect you to show up and at least attempt to dispel them. The draft starts long before the draft. If there was confusion about that before, there should not be any now.

Sanders asked one GM what talent he would be assembling for him if he joined the team. Like, he was interviewing the team instead of the other way around.

Sanders was over rated. Word is he interviewed badly.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

I've said many times that Mike Mayock exploded that myth. Up until 2018, Mayock was the guy. I think that he pretty much set the board for everyone else. You notice how in almost every draft there is a general consensus on most of the first round especially up until then? I think that Mayock was the expert's expert, and most guys built their boards off of his. It's statistically impossible that 100 independent "experts" that are as close as they were without them all working off one foundation and making alterations from there.

Then, in the 2019 draft, Mayock picks Clelin Ferrell 4th overall. Ferrell was generally mocked in the late teens. Without Mayock to give everybody a framework, whatever they were all working off had Ferrell ranked about half a round later. If Mayock hadn't been a GM, and was still just a TV guy, where would he have had him? I'm guessing almost everyone else would have mocked him top 5 as well, and with their usual detailed analysis as to why he was top 5 and how he was going to dominate in the NFL. I've noticed a little less consensus than pre-Mayock, but still enough to know that they operate in an echo chamber.

Bottom line, how many experts actually watch at least two full games of the non-traditional, nationally televised schools? How many players are evaluated only using combine, senior bowl practice, and a five minute highlight reel?

No disrespect but most of us aren’t considering what teams value when they make these picks. Its culture, talent, mesh, film, measurements and intangibles.

Sure, some of these teams are bad at this but when you see draft rooms its 8 to 10 people in there making these decisions and some of the faces are prolly faking it and had other guys they preferred but had to play the good soldier.

and its why a ton of people get fired every year or 2 in the NFL.

He failed a couple of test as well. Supposedly, he was given two test. One of them is when he threw an interception and they asked him about it and he blamed the reciever and everybody else and took no accountability for the interception. The young man has the character of his dad without the achomplishments of his dad. And that attitude turned off a ton of owners. Boomer Esiason says he personally knows owners who instructed their GM's to take his name off the draft board. Coupled with the fact of Deion and Shudeur saying they would choose the team that he would be drafted to didn't sit well with owners as well. All those factors added up to what happened to him.

There is a lot of talk going around about this Sanders issue. Some of it is true and some of it is BS. There's one thing true in life that I have learned in 72 years on earth. I've been an athlete , in the military, an executive in the chemical industry and four years as a high school teacher, no one likes a smart A**. If you are one you better be brilliant ( aka Dion Sanders) and not average or slightly above( aka Dion's son)
