    2025 offseason prediction thread

Rooney has now spoken multiple times, we know he values stability over all else, and in fact has told us to be happy with what we see. This should make for an easy offseason prediction thread for a team that is going to do what it always does. Hope I’m wrong on a lot of these but don’t think I will be.

    - We all get a freebie — no coach or coordinator changes. Nuff said.

    - Fields or Wilson will be signed to be the 2025 QB

    - Draft a Najee replacement that looks a lot like Najee. Lots of explosive backs in the draft, the Steelers have no use for that, it only serves to put the defense back on the field too quickly.

    - Keep George Pickens and put up with his shyte for another season.

    - Extend TJ Watt and make him the league’s highest paid defender and “one helmet” guy

    - Sign a middling WR2 in free agency, avoiding first round talents once again (Tomlin has never picked a WR in the first round)

    - Draft a tweener or two at DL

The same inputs to the stability machine will produce similar results — low-scoring offense, good defense that gets shredded by good offense, 6th or 7th seed, blowout loss, and a year from now Rooney will say the same things.

Ha, this would be so on brand. “Catch short, run long”.

The Pittsburgh Steelers showed significant interest in shifty Colorado wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. at the 2025 Shrine Bowl

I see the Steelers drafting DL in round 1. I don't know enough about what's out there to say who. I think we go WR or RB in rd 2 whoever is the best available. We might pick up a QB in rd3. The best available. We like tall guys so maybe Howard from Ohio State. Will get a CB in rd4.

I believe Fields Is our QB in 2025 and maybe Mason comes back as a backup.

I don't see us keeping George in 2025. May be get a 2nd for him and drafting his replacement. One unknown is this kid from Boise State. I just found out he's very strong and fast. He was impressive against everybody but Penn State. Note we use the Big Ten as a benchmark . If he's there at 21 we might go against history and take him in rd1.

        FA- sign a couple scrubs
Draft- get a bunch of ‘steeler types’ that regardless where they were ranked, will be hailed great picks.

        So, business as usual.
How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?

            DL in the first
WR day two. Likely the second unless someone drops hard enough that they feel they can't pass.
Release of Preston Smith, Ogunjobi, Patterson.
I don't think I can predict this but hopeful cut or trade of Seumalo.
If Holcomb isn't cut then he will be back by camp.
            Attempted trade of Cameron Johnston.
FA signing of at least one WR.
Extension and new title for Weidl.
RB1 (or 1a with Warren) through the draft, not FA.

Not bad thinking, but what about CB? Jackson was too hot and cold last season. Also don't want to see Loudermilk resigned. And Leal is pretty much on the same trajectory for next offseason.

I don't know if CB ends up draft or FA. I think the team feels like they won't be forced into a decision as they have young guys in place if they don't address it and priorities are elsewhere first.

Leal sticks because he is still cheap. He also had a strong camp and was looking good before getting hurt. Loudermilk is barely worth mentioning. If brought back he will be extremely cheap, and you need scrubs to round out the roster. The goal isn't to replace Loudermilk as much as to bring in players who are so much better that even if on the roster, we almost never get the chance to watch him play.
