If Cincy is still alive at kickoff time next week, might get to four. This team is doing little right.
3 straight double-digit losses for the first time since 1988.

Ugh, this is a great point, too. Are you giving up or not?

More.
This marks the 9th time in 18 seasons the Steelers have had a 3+ game losing streak, 7 of those were late in the season.Comment

In those 18 seasons, I wonder where we rank in regular season wins? My guess is that it's "pretty high".
And if that's the case, the question becomes something like: What's more important: (i) winning more games than average or (ii) avoiding 3 game losing streaks?Comment

How can we tell the difference between "unprepared to play" and "not as good as the other team"?
Given that we just payed 3 of the best teams in the league (best team in the NFC, best team in the AFC / league, AFC team that's at least a WC team and has 10 wins). Those 3 teams have combined to have 37 wins as of today. Or if you prefer, 34 wins against other teams.
I get that we're all disappointed with how the team has played in the last 11 days. I was hoping that we'd be able to split these last 4 games. And that's impossible now.
But let's not pretend that we didn't just play 3 very good teams. I think it's very likely at one of these three teams gets to the SB. And I wouldn't be surprised at all of 2/3 of them get there.

This is an interesting question I think.

Is that what is acceptable. Not in Pittsburgh. I'm thinking next year is worse. We are going to get back to drafting our own players and not gambling on other teams non-signees. We need a franchise QB. Wilson was one but he's old. He's Fat Elvis. We need dominant defensive linemen.
Blow it up start with D and get a QB. That's been the plan that worked. Maybe Mike T doesn't want to go through that. Get a fresh face whatever it takes. This group we got now isn't going anywhere.Comment

It is not just that they lost to three of the best teams in the league, it is that they were not competitive on either side of the ball. The O looks terrible and a 2 score lead looks insurmountable, and the D, while occasionally playing well, gets carved up consistently. Struggle with the run and the pass. Being a wild card and getting whipped in the first round is not fun and it is not a successful season.sigpic👍 1Comment

You just put it out there , perhaps without knowing it. We're not one of the good teams. We haven't been. We're a team that's around 13 to 17 in the league. We have been for 5 years, since Ben hurt his elbow.

That reasonable expectations are to be competitive in the WC game.
You can think it's acceptable or not, but that doesn't change reality. There is no pixie dust that the franchise gets to sprinkle on players. If there was, there wouldn't have been such a long wait between Bradshaw and Ben. And that was in a time where QB play probably mattered less than it does now.
So much about actually competing for a SB is having very good QB play.
I think we're better in that regard than we have been since Ben got hurt.
But we've still got the 3rd BEST QB in the division (with a big gap between 2 and 3). And where would our QB rank in the conference? Certainly not top 5. How far down from there?
We're a pretty good team. But we're not in the same class as BUF and KC. And I think we're not as good as the Rats.
If we get some turnovers, I think we can win a playoff game.
But competing for a SB would require a heck of a lot of luck.Last edited by Northern_Blitz; 12-25-2024, 09:05 PM.Comment

Tomlin has errored a couple of times in the last few years. The Canada hire was a bad miss. Wasted a couple of good defensive seasons. Now the defense is fading and the offense is still only about average (far better than Canada). I won't lay 100% on him for the KP pick. When you get a chance at a QB in round 1 you take it. And he might still be on the team if he didn't force a trade.Comment

Not sure why you describe them as being "all in" on Kenny. They started Mitch in year 1. Then they benched him for Rudolph. Then this team...who basically never gives up on anyone early..brought in his replacement very early in the offseason.
And do you really think it set them back? The alternative was to roll with Mitch in the roll of Tommy Maddox.Comment
