    Hines hurt his hamstring

I didn't see anyone post this but Hines hurt his hamstring in the first practice yesterday and was held out last night. The begining of the end?

unfortunately, there is a connection between getting older and being injury-prone...

Last few years it seems he's been playing on only 1.3 hammies pretty much any given game.

Yah, I think it is the beginning of the middle of the end.

Sweed - now is your time!!

He had two bad hammys late last season. Rumor was he was having a very hard time healing. He will try to gut it out like he does but I can't imagine him being all that effective this season if they can't heal. This will be Ward's last season...he probably won't play all 16 games=we must keep 6 WRs.
          Trolls are people too.

I feared this... ARE, Battle, keeping Sweed... didn't see the Holmes trade coming but I felt as though Hines was the WR who wouldn't be able to make it next season.

Hopefully he follows Troy's program for a healthy leg and rest until the season starts.

Hines is a great athlete, but even the best will have issues as they age. Let's just hope that he can be an influence on the other receivers and help them develop and maybe make some plays this year.

I'm not going to stress over a hamstring in May.

OK, so if Hines does go down with a hammy and Sweed is out with an Achilles, we are down to what? Maybe it's a good idea that we stocked up on WR's in the off-season.

Heck, the Steelers may have to return to running the ball simply simply because there won't be anyone better that a #3 WR on the field to throw to.

Suddenly, Antonio Brown looks like a solid bet to make the team.

                    Sweed - IR (probably)

                    that leaves us with

                    ARE
                    Battle
                    Ward
                    Wallace
                    Brown
                    Sanders

Heck if one of these guys gets injured before the final preseason game, we may be bringing in some FAs or looking to see who gets cut.
Even if Bill Belichick was getting an atomic wedgie, his face would look exactly the same.

Hines isn't needed at these things. By 'tweeking' a hammy, everyone can say he showed up and will be back soon. Meanwhile, he saves his body for what really is needed. He's had far more than hammy problems and played.

Anyone wonder if Favre's ankle is actually bad or he just is skipping training again. He clearly didn't need 2-a-days last year.

Yeah, Carlton Mitchell had a bright future until the Browns drafted him. Such a shame...

                              Re: Hines hurt his hamstring

HInes will, at some point, retire, we have no idea when, but I thought a quick look at his career to this point would provide some good news about the Steelers.

Hines Ward has played 12 seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
                              There were only 3 seasons when he didn't participate in all 16 games, 2005 (15), 2006 (14) and 2007 (13).
He has 895 catches for 10,947 yards
He has average 59 yards per game over that time
He has only 10 fumbles, which means that he fumbles the ball about 1 out of every 100 times he touches it.
In that time he's fumbled twice in one year only 2 times, last year and 2006
                              In that time he's had zero fumbles 4 times, 1998, 2003, 2005 and 2007
He's had 565 catches for first downs or 63% of the time
He's been a part of two Super Bowl teams
He's rushed the ball 56 times for 430 yards, a 7.7 YPC, 1 TD and 1 fumble (He's a bit loose with the ball when he rushes it )
He's returned 8 KOs for 210 yards, 0 TDs and 1 fumble (ball security Hines, ball security)
                              He's returned 1 punt for 2 yards, 0 TDs and 0 fumbles.

In all he's touched the ball 960 times and fumbled it 12 times for a 1.25% fumble rate, gained 11,589 yards and scored 79 TDs.

The Steelers will certainly miss him someday and he'll always be a fan favorite. It would be nice to see him get to 1000 catches and 10,000 yards receiving. It looks like his body will have to hold up for two more years to achieve those lofty goals, unless, he has a very, very good year this year.
