I think Windy will go on vacation for a while, maybe a few others. I think more national people were opposed to the switch, than fans. I think many local people wanted to see what Russ could do. Not disappointed at all. The Steelers really seem like a dangerous team if they can score 30 points. Tomlin definitely made the right choice.
I definitely wanted the Steelers either way, and I'll cheer for them next week whether they start Wilson, Fields, or Kyle Allen.
I also have criticized Tomlin when I thought it was the right call, and given him credit where I thought it was due.
This week he took all responsibility for what was a tough move, when the easy move was to stick with the guy who got you to 4-2. He deserves all the credit on this one so good call Coach.
Although I was on board with the 'start Wilson' decision, I won't presume Tomlin is a genius. His decision was a calculated risk no matter how you want to slice it. The Depot had a nice writeup on three reasons for Tomlin to make the change. I mostly agreed with #2 on the list.
But honestly, Tomlin's own words made the most sense; "Look, I went lone ranger on it. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll take the heat. I’ll shoulder the blame, no problem. The reason I did this, is I knew I had two quarterbacks going into camp that are very capable, but I wanted to see both of them before I made a long-term decision. Well, I haven't seen the other one [Wilson]. I want to see at least what I have from him, exhaust all options, and then make a decision down the stretch." "I'm not trying to win games, I'm trying to win a world title here. I gotta see what I've got in both."
EDIT: btw, only a HC that is completely comfortable with his position on the team makes this decision. Lesser coaches would 'stick with what was working'.
C'mon admit it...several of you were hoping for a Steelers loss so that you could criticize Tomlin for starting Wilson
Tomlin made the right choice
YES, he did. Nevermind the fact the Russ was fine weeks ago. Last night Russ showed us what we have been missing. Suddenly we are a top 8 NFL team.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.
Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.
*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***
Terry Bradshaw better stick to entertainment .....
“If Sean Payton, one of the greatest offensive minds in the NFL, gives up on a guy that throws 25 touchdowns and 6 interceptions after 15 games, I’m telling you that there’s something wrong with Wilson that I don’t know about. But I know this, in my opinion, Wilson should not be starting today.”
