    Muth Extension

Reading now where Steelers may not extend Muth this season. TBH, the only way I sign him to a second contract is if it is very team friendly. Muth hasn't exactly set the world on fire since he was drafted. SIS had him ranked as the 25th best TE last season. Not what you would expect from a 2nd round pick. Now some of it may be tied to the offense under Canada but Muth was ranked 6th in 2022, so a big drop in one year. The other odd thing is that he has only been listed as the starting TE in half the games each season. Last year splitting time with Heyward and Washington.
I'm thinking $7M maximum annual. Or maybe even consider a trade for a WR2...

I still think they'll extend him.

But I understand the argument against doing it.

I agree he's still pretty unproven. Because we haven't been able to pass the ball in the last few years. And he's had issues staying on the field.

He might have a big year this year because we don't really have a second receiving option. But who knows. He did have 98 targets 2 years ago: 63 catches, 730 yards. Only 2 TDs...but we know that was a huge problem for all receiving options on the team because we had a QB that wasn't really able to throw TDs, in a system that sucked.

I'd like a short term team friendly deal too.

But my guess is that the best they'll be able to sign (if they sign one) is one that easy to walk away from early.

And he (and his agent) are probably betting that his value will be higher next offseason than it is now.
