    Has anyone considered...

In the rush to criticize the Heyward extension has anyone considered what we might do with the cap savings this season?

Does Khan have a plan to get possibly another quality WR or CB? Do multiple extensions?

IMO..."he fat lady hasn't sung yet"

    I think we'll extend PF.

I also think that we'll carry forward more cap space than we usually do.

Seems to me that we're gearing up to have to do a lot of big contracts next season. Which makes sense because they'll probably extend Watt and Pickens. And hopefully get a QB under contract.

Yes. A one year deal would have been fine for a Cam. He is going to be 36 soon, an he 's injured a lot recently.

A three-year, $45MM deal . The pact includes $29MM in new money along with $16MM in guarantees (nearly $15MM of which is comprised of a signing bonus). A bit much for an older soon to be part time player.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

Since Tomlin said he doesn't like rookie QBs they will look to sign a big-name next year. Other than Prescott, Fields, and Wilson, the list of FA QBs next year is awfully underwhelming.
If the Steelers blow it this year, I hope they do a reset with a draft pick at QB (and maybe HC as well). Trying to win with retreads doesn't seem the best approach.

But I'll try to stay positive until it's otherwise obvious .

This can be a 1 year, 2 year, or 3 year deal at the team's disgression.

He didn't get any additional new money this year. His salary this year did all become guaranteed. But I don't think anyone thinks there was a chance he would get cut this year.

If we cut him or he retires after this year, it's a 1 year deal with 2 dummy years to spread out this year's salary.

If he retires or is cut after next season, it's paying him his salary this year then giving him a paycut next year. We would take a $5MM dead cap hit in 2 years for getting $10MM off the cap this season.

If he plays out the contract, it's paying him his salary this year and cutting his pay the next two years (vs. this year).

This is the same end of career contract we gave to Troy and Heath. It's a reasonable contract for both sides IMO.

But I think a lot of people just look at the total contract and don't think about the structure.

I think UFA QBs are usually not great. But hopefully one of our two QBs work out and we pay them something like a top 10 deal.

If not, I think the idea is to try to land Prescott if he doesn't get an extension (I'd always bet on a guy getting extended...see: Aiyuk).

Unfortunately, there's no good way to get a QB. Even tanking for a top pick fails a lot.

Excellently put. This is just like new wallpaper. Makes somebody feel better without actually doing anything.
