It Looks Like I was Right about Broderick jones

Before preseason began I started a thread about Broderick Jones being out of shape. My conclusions were that he was becoming less athletic, less powerful and that it looked like he was prioritizing weight gain over proper diet, plyometrics and pumping iron.

Apparently and unfortunately it appears I was right. He's turning into a draft bust who will be on a similar path as Kendrell Bell, Willie Parker and Lamar Woodley. Guys who ate themselves out of the NFL who could have had much longer careers if they had of stayed in shape.

The link to that thread I mentioned earlier is below. Discuss, have your thoughts changed on Jones now that you've seen him in action?

I was going through images of Broderick Jones on Google and I happened to notice how ripped his body was at the combine. By the end of his first season however you can clearly see he looks really flabby. What has changed diet wise with this beast? Should I be concerned? I really hope he's been pumping the weights again and not

Greg Cosell had this to say before the draft about Jones:

Jones is a significant work in progress as you transition and project him to the next level, given his overall lack of experience as a starting LT in college. He is long with plus athleticism for the OT position, but he has some glaring tendencies in pass protection that consistently showed up on his 2022 tape. It starts with his penchant for bending at the waist and dropping his head when challenged on the edge. Jones, in his 45-degree and vertical pass sets, showed a strong tendency to be too upright in his kick slide, making him look labored in his lateral movement and negating his plus athleticism.

Erratic and inconsistent footwork, combined with poor stature and late strike timing, often resulted in Jones playing with a lack of fundamental technique and bending and dropping his head. Jones’ athleticism showed up in the run game where you saw the fluidity and easy movement when he climbed to the second level and when he pulled outside and across the formation.

Overall, evaluators and coaches will like Jones’ athleticism and length, but his tape is erratic and wildly inconsistent, especially in pass protection. That could be a function of lack of experience, but there are technique issues that must be addressed and cleaned up.
You must be confident you can coach him up and correct his issues to get him much closer to a finished product and a consistent player at the next level. My sense is Jones will struggle in his first year and may not be ready to start, given the inconsistencies and deficiencies that littered his 2022 Georgia tape
While he fit an OT profile, he's got work to do to get to the top of his game. We'll find out if the coaches are up to the task of molding him into a star OL.

This. Not sure we have coaches who know how to do this. If not, we might be better off staffing our OL w veterans we acquire through FA/trades.
