    4/21/10 = D-Day for Ben

Steelers expect Roethlisberger ruling from commish tomorrow
    Tuesday, April 20, 2010
    By Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Steelers are expecting to hear Wednesday what punishment Ben Roethlisberger will receive from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in connection with his alleged sexual-assault incident in Georgia, the Post-Gazette has learned.

Roethlisberger was not charged in the case in Milledgeville, Ga., in which he was accused by a 20-year-old college student of assaulting her in a nightclub bathroom. But he is expected to be suspended by the league for what Goodell referred to as repeated bad judgment.

Art Rooney II said in a press conference last Thursday that the Steelers will work with Goodell to determine the punishment, which would include the length of the suspension.

The announcement is expected to come a day before the start of the NFL draft -- a draft in which director of football operations Kevin Colbert has said the Steelers do not need a quarterback.

Meantime, Roethlisberger was on the field today for his second day of offseason practice with his teammates.

Although I find it irresponsible the level of hatred shown by the media and fans against Ben for these "alleged" incidents , I do feel as though he needs punished for continually putting himself in questionable circumstances. He probably needs some counseling as well to help him make better decisions regarding his sex life. That being said , anything more than a 2 game suspension is utter crap IMO. Fine him out the *ss , require counseling , sit him for 2 games and let's see where Ben takes his life from there. He has brought embarrassment to the organization but I still believe in the guy , although it's getting much harder. If Goodell takes it further than that he is setting a dangerous precident.

The timing is actually good news. If Goodell waited a couple of more weeks to make a decision as was initially expected, then the media firestorm would be all over it again. But tomorrow, everyone will be talking about the schedule that comes out this evening, and then Thursday, Friday, and Saturday is draft, draft, draft. In the midst of more important league activity like the schedule announcement and the draft, there will be less of a microscope on analyzing Ben's punishment.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I agree. You'd have to imagine it's no coincidence when this is being announced. I may even lend itself to the theory of , Goodell is not handing down punishment to the extent some fans and media think he should , so maybe the schedule/draft will help to overshadow a decision some may not like. Could be wrong , but with an off season full of so much speculation I can't help but do the same with this news.

You do realize that the NFL is a Socialist business operating within the parameters of a free market system. Goodell is the dictator and make no mistake about it, he wields his power like no other commissioner has.

Burying it between the release of the schedule and the Draft will allow it to recieve less news coverage then it would normally. By Thursday everyone will be talking draft, After that its who did we pick. Then its OTAs.

Would it be more fascist than socialist? I don't think the players would say they are sharing equally in the spoils of the profits!

Socialism was never designed to share the spoils of the work with the people doing the work. It was designed to make the ruling class wealthy and to do that by keeping the working people downtrodden and unable to move up in social class.

I think Ben would get the message better if the majority of the punishment was extensvie counsiling/therapy. If all he does his sit for 2-4 game.......big deal. Make him go to mandatory therapy for 6 months, then your messing with his free time. A good punishment: 2 games + 6 months of therapy.
