Charley Casserly on what he thinks Steelers should do...

    alex, ny
    2:24 PM ET

hello charley, who do you think the steelers will be selecting with their first round pick on draft day? after they released santonio holmes do you think they would draft a dez bryant or stick to a corner like kyle wilson a position of need???

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM
I would stick to more of the position of need with the Steelers. When you look at them, inside LB and both of the lines are bigger needs to me than WR. The receiver need is there, but really, they'd do well by just taking the best player available.

    take BPA

sticking to a "position of need" is how we ended up with Troy Edwards.

I agree here. Let's get the BPA with a strong pull toward a DB if all things are equal.

He was an NFL GM but now works for CBS.

            He needs a hair cut.

            And I agree too, BPA.

Charley Casserly was the GM for the Redskins for something like 16 years and now has become a TV analyst for CBS -

here's what Bill Belichick thinks of him:

You can't accuse Bill Belichick of being boring with the media anymore; he just needs the right target.

Last month, he happily took shots at some Carolina Panthers in defense of Randy Moss. Speaking Monday on WEEI, Belichick took aim at CBS analyst Charley Casserly.

Belichick was asked about Casserly's report that Tom Brady was playing through three broken ribs.

"Who's been wrong more than Charley Casserly since he left the Redskins? His percentage is like a meteorologist," Belichick said.

"He has no relationship to this team. I'd say less than zero. Based on what? He's never at a practice, never at a game," Belichick said before getting into a discussion of sports media practices in general.

"At least he put his name on it which is more than a lot of guys. But, like he usually is, he was 100 percent wrong."

              Ouch.

He also worked for the Texans for a while, and was the man who pulled the trigger on Mario Williams over Reggie Bush and Vince Young, and was lambasted by the media for it (but who had the last laugh there?).
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

BPA ... UNLESS ... filling the need involves a sufficiently small drop-off.

Exactly -- you beat me to it. That was an unpopular move at the time, but it turned out to be the right one.

As many on this site think ... The Rooney's suck, Colbert sucks, Tomlin sucks, the coaches suck, and the players suck.

                      but Go Steelers!!!

Criticize the man all you want but you all know he is right. Do not downplay his wisdom. The Steelers value his take. I guaranty you they will either stick to a position of need or take the best player available.

Actually look closely and you will see why nobody wants him as a GM.

Come on. Hedging his bets? Not true at all and kinda harsh.

I'd say "covering all his bases" would be much more acccurate.
