FWIW. i wanted cowher gone too. i thought he underachieved come playoff time
some will say that if he left, we wouldnt have that super bowl...........really?, how can you prove that?
getting a HOF qb sure helps any coach.
hell, even tomlin won with one. now he sure hasnt done much the last 10 years with that same HOF qb that cowher only had for a season or two
steelers = 3 ring circus with tomlin being the head clown

But you can't not care about how other teams do AND say you have a rational benchmark for what success looks like.

And that's been my whole point. Saying we're the Steelers and we should be better than every other team because our guys walk past 6 Lombardi trophies every day is setting your expectations based on emotion and not reality.

It's fine if you want to be unreasonable about sports. But I think it's important to recognize it for what it is.

but thats exactly what almost every fan on here does. we are the steelers. we have 6 rings. we are the standard that other teams try to be. our way is the right way. no need to ever change. we have morals. we dont tolerate players like that etc etc.
look how many fans root against the pats just so they dont tie us or pass us for super bowls. hey, how about being more concerned about what our team is doing to keep that record instead of saying everything is fine and hoping pats lose.
AND i truly believe our owner , coach and players feel the same way. how many times have they looked past bad teams and come out unprepared? they walk past those trophies and think that lesser teams are just going to roll over for them. players and coaches looking past teams come playoff time too.

Or maybe it's like you said in a previous post.

Sometimes teams with worse records have good game plans and good execution.

And if it's Ben overlooking those teams (like in years after SB wins under different coaches) it probably won't change with a 3rd coach.

I'm certainly greatful for the success the Steelers have had. That doesn't mean that I expect it to always be the same.

You asked me before if I thought the odds of winning a SB were even among all teams. And I think they should be in the long run even though they aren't necessarily even year to year. But with QB's playing so long now, I bet the long run is a pretty long time. Getting Ben was luck combined with the Browns being stupid. It wasn't because Steelers QBs get special pixie dust when they join the team.

am i happy with being second or third in team wins the last decade? yup
am i happy that we go to the playoffs more than most teams? yup
but thats not what im talking about here. i am talking what they are capable of doing and what they actually do
its like i dont care what other kids got on their test, i only carer about what my kid got on their test
if my kid is mostly A's and B's and then gets C's and D's, i get pissed. i expect more becuase i know they are capable.
3 playoff wins in 8 years isnt knee jerk, blow it up
missing the playoffs those years when plenty of losses came from absolute bottom dwellers, isnt knee jerk
i admit, our regular season record is a blessing and a curse to me.
it sure is nice to walk around on thanksgiving and christmas and give my wifes family(all lions fans) a ton of crap because their team always blows but it doesnt help with the major letdowns that happen to us in the playoffs
You may not like that other teams are discussed, but it does provide context and perspective. The Patriots are an anomaly not the standard. No different than we were in the 70s where other franchises had their best teams ever and they missed their windows.

Other teams may inconveniently add context to your one track debate, but it does clearly demonstrate that we have a very good head coach who performs above the average by a large margin and the sky isn't falling.

Squid, why keep going over the same thing over and over with them? It's pointless.
