Pittsburgh Steelers nose tackle Chris Hoke will undergo season and possibly career-ending surgery on his neck, Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Hoke, 35, has been sidelined since suffering a “stinger” in an October 16 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of BYU in 2001, Hoke did not appear in a game until 2004 and has totaled 83 tackles and two quarterback sacks in 114 games over the last seven-plus seasons.
The Steelers had re-signed Hoke to a one-year deal after the lockout ended, meaning Hoke will be an unrestricted free agent in 2012.
